Does anyone know about Rixe track bicycles? They were made in west germany. The only thing on the internet talks about their tandem bicycles.

I don't know anything about them, but I have seen one of the tandems before.

Wow! Very nice and a great vintage bike. I had a Rixe 10 speed that was very similiar to a Peugeot UO-8. Too small for me, I sold it to my neighbor who rides it often.

They made a whole range of bicycles but apparently were not a huge manufacturer. I have a Rixe folder, not sure if they made it or had it made under license.

Rixe was found in 1920 next to the German city Bielefeld. So it was simply a German bicycle company (no "east" or "west" by that time). After world war 2, it was a West Germany based company.

Rixe also started to produce motorcycles in 1935, during ww2 they produced mainly war equipment like bombs and grenades, but they still produced small amounts of motorcycles and bicycles too. By that time, forced workers from all over Europe had to help out. Definitely a very dark chapter for the company.

After world war 2, the company slowly was rebuild (the company was mainly destroyed because of a big bombardment in 1944) and in the year 1949 they produced the unbelievable number of 1400000 bicycles (yes, thats true!).

In the 1950ies, Rixe bought another German company called "Torpedo" and started to produce their own bikes under the name of Torpedo too (by that time you could buy a Rixe or Torpedo, the only difference were different decals).

But overall Rixe was mainly producing small motorcycles and regular bicycles, if i understood it right, the only racing bikes were made in the fifties. One of the more famous riders back then was Andre Bertin:

The traditional company Rixe was shot down in 1984. The production machines for frame and bicycle building then had been sold to China.

Thanks everyone for the info! if anyone else comes up with anything let me know. I think I read somewhere that the company is producing bikes again under the Rixe name in germany. I am sure it's not the same company, just the namesake. Kind of like what schwinn has become.
