I totally agree with having the threads chased and cleaned and the faces faced. But I don't agree that a Crescent wrench properly used and with unworn, square jaws is the wrong tool. It needs to be set in place correctly before you crank on it, but that's true of any method to attack fixed cup work. If you do this too hastily with any set of tools, injury and damage may result.

yeah i got it, i finally got the correct tools. my problem at first was i know i didnt crank the fixed cup in tight enough. second i didnt have the right tools to hold the cup and tighten the lock ring at the same time.thanks for all the tips. thats why i post here....
