Dia Compe brake hoods and pads question

I have decided to keep the 1983 Cannondale garage sale find, so I am going to need new brake hoods and pads. Advice on hoods for New Gran-Compe NGC 200 levers and pads for New Gran-Compe 500 side pulls would be appreciated. Rims are Wolber Super Champion anodized aluminum and I am over 200 lbs, so stopping power increase would be nice. Right now it is all original.

I am considering the Cane Creek hoods in black instead of the brown color that came on the bike, as the bike is charcoal in color and most everything else on the bike is black, cable housing, seat, etc. As far as pads, am leaning towards the Kool Stop dual compound in the Dura Ace style holder.

Thoughts?

I used the Cane Creek hoods on some Gran Compe brakes. They fit perfectly.

I've used various different Kool Stop brake pads and been ultra-satisfied with all them them. I suspect there's no need to buy anything but the cheapest. If you want the pretty ones, fine, but they probably won't brake better.

There are some pads that are as good as Kool Stops. I don't know of any that are better. Also, the prices are quite low. I usually pay about $8 per pair at my LBS.

So are you talking about the Koolstop Continental or Eagle2?

Blurry pic, sorry, but this is the lever in question. Spec sheet at Vintage Cannondale calls for NGC 200 levers on the 83 ST500

I need a Dia-Com brake lever hood for my 1976 Schwinn Super Le Tour 12.2 and I haven't had much luck finding one.

For these brakes I would probably go with kool stop eagles but the contentials will also work if you have enough rim surface since the run a little wide. If you want to stay vintage you can pick up a set of nos or new exact Dia-compes pretty cheap on Ebay.

^ Does anyone know if those Velo Orange hoods will fit vintage Shimano 600 levers? I really want some white hoods to match the bar tape.

Well yes they should fit as rubber hoods. Here's a photo comparison of both levers.

Update: I went with the Cane Creek hoods. They went on easily and fit fine by my standards.
