Old Paramount....just bought it!!

Picked this one up last night. The owner used it a bit in college and than put it up in his attic for years....at least thats the story. Needs some major clean up and love. He said it was a 1964 model but I believe its older. Serial number on the non drive drop out is stamped B30. Sew up tires and has eyelets so im not sure if its racing or touring? Has the olympic bands on seat tube. Showed this to Kurt and he said "buy it" so i did ! At any rate...im looking foward to riding it..just have to fix it up and put some new wheels on it

sweet find- I recognize the valentino front deraileur.

I hope the paint is salvageable- if not you could just do some touch-ups

she will look sweet after she gets cleaned up!

Gran Sport FD, not Valentino.

It's a '59 Paramount P12 with just about all the optional trimmings.

They used the "Disneyland" decals (my absolute favorite) from 1958-1963: https://waterfordbikes.com/now/home.p...ramountclassic

Serial number on the non drive drop out is stamped B30.
That would make it a '59: https://waterfordbikes.com/now/home.p...aramountdating

Sew up tires and has eyelets so im not sure if its racing or touring?
Back then they had only 3 models, this would be the P12 "Road Racer". Here is a '62 catalog page showing the same bike: https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCat...Paramount.html

Awesome find!

Joe, she's gorgeous, a great score. Don't paint her, just clean her up a bit and enjoy.

WOW!!!! That green is not to be confused with Campus Green. I'm pretty certain it is known as Radiant Green. A rather rare color and it looks to be in great condition. Great score, especially to find a pre 1960 Paramount! All of the road models at that point came with eyelets.

Great find. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have mine. Green Paramount's must not have been one of the more popular colors. Yours is the only other Green one I've seen.

Wonderful score. Those early Paramounts are few and far between. I wish I hadn't sold my 1965 Paramount in Radiant Orange. Does your 59 have the early Campy cranks with the raised pedal lip? Can't tell from the pics. Oh, when you tire of that Paramount please contact me as I want to be the next owner!

Yeah, GOOD score, that one has the raised-lip 1st-gen cranks made only for about 1 year!

It's the very same green as my 1961 Traveler (ladies 2-speed model).

These photos show a nicer looking bike that the Craigslist photos for sure!!!

Looks like a straight post and a clamp, with the clamp turned over like they did sometimes in the olden days to make it look neater.

Thanks everyone! Wont repaint it. I will have expert ddd touch up and clean up. As for the olympic rings, I was sure these were only on 60s models. The hubs do have the oil band on them as well. Was thinking about using some newer clincher wheels with 6 speed freewheel but not sure if that would work.

The Olympic ring decal was used until mid-1973. The bands themselves changed size when the 1963+ Starburst set came out. Additionally, the '63+ bands are marked "Arnold Schwinn and Company" - after 1968, they're marked "Schwinn Bicycle Company."

Thats some unusual trim on the brake housings. Anybody recognize it? Could it be period-correct?
I suspect it could be a very rare item now, from back in the day.
My '62 Continental came with the oldest-style hub shiners I've seen, and a German-made rack, which I removed. The hub shiners I consider a proper embellishment tho, and maybe that housing trim can be ID'd as either period or non-period.

Its a cable cover from the period and before, typically popular with Harley dresser riders.
