I've seen too many nice old aluminum bottles encrusted with adhesive from cloth tape. Very difficult to get off and those bottles are hard to come by.

no wonder you don't like it, this is the dumbest design ever. what is suppose to keep the cage attached to the bars? i'm assuming the bungee cord was your way of fixing the design flaw. seems to me that the point where your bungee is hooked, the bracket should go under the stem and join. that way the weight of the bottle would push down at the cage end while pushing up under the stem.

I had a TA bar mount bottle cage many years ago but got rid of it because it had a tendency to launch the bottle on rough roads. Are modern bar mounted bottle cages less prone to this?

I have a double bottle cage that mounts on standard braze-ons. An eBay find. Have used it to give me 3 bottles on hot summer days.

Is that a split seat tube? Looks like an interesting ride. I used a profile TT water bottle that fit between the aero bars with the straw...it was handy when in that tucked position. I have used the minoura as well and really liked that option. You could use whatever cages you wanted and you could keep it more c and v related.

I got this mount on Bike Nashbar for about $2.50 each. I stocked up when they had them on sale, and still have a couple in a box.

The traditional T.A. cage looks like this. They're chromed steel, so it's hard to find one with no rust. This one was NOS.
