brake reach question

is there any way to tell before i buy shimano 600 try colour brakes if they have enough reach for 700c.
The brake reach is 39-49mm and the frame they will be going on is a raleigh but I'm not sure of the model.

Thanks

39-49mm is considered short reach. I went through the same thing with my Paramount. I finally discovered the Campagnolo brake calipers were short for the 700C. I think normal reach 49-59 is what you may need.

In my extremely limited experience, the front has never been an issue. Can't speak to the rear, though 49mm sounds short to me.

What year is your Raleigh? The simpliest way is to simply measure your bike with the wheels you intend to use. I would moint the wheel sans tire and measure from the mounting hole to the bottom of the rim where the spoke holes are. That would be within a MM or two of the max reach a brakeset would have to be.

I don't think those brakes will fit that bike

So you measure on an angle?

As long as you do it for both.

You measure at an angle because the brakes work at an angle. The reach for any particular setup has a little to do with rim width as well as how far down the rim is.
