Bump.

repechage 06-08-12 07:54 PM

Well, I am out of touch. Have fun.

iab 06-10-12 06:54 AM

Nothing?

Hey fellas, how about a hearty welcome to a new member, VintageDude. He is presently at Cirque where I am certain that he is absorbing vast quantities of vintage and KOF knowledge. When he comes down from Mt. Olympus I am confident he will share some of his experiences with us.

Looking forward to pics.

I was there for the entire weekend but didn't take too many pictures. :( However, my 1950 Norman Rapide won the best Non-American bicycle in the 1950-1959 category. :)

Wow. Congratulations! That's cool.

That's great! Congrats! From what I've gathered, it's a tough crowd there, too, so that says something!

Thanks Frank. I'm tipping one now: A Snake Dog IPA from the local brewery. :)

Thanks rootboy. It's the first time I entered anything in the show, so maybe it's just beginner's luck.

Thanks southpaw. Yes, the folks at Cirque are indeed a pretty tough crowd but, at the same time, the Norman is like nothing else of the era. Winning best in category was really was a function of (1) the bike itself and (2) the work that rhm did putting the bike back to its original state. I really just took the bike there and presented it to the folks. With all the framebuilders, former racers and vintage bike aficionados there, they have a good sense of what constitutes a good bike and the Norman is exceptional in nearly every way.

Here's some that I found. http://biciak.blogspot.com/2012/06/2...e-bicycle.html

That's a very nice bicycle.

Not having seen the comp, I'll still say you deserve it. :)

A fine show! Thanks to Wayne & MJ, as well as all the people who showed up with bikes, parts, presentations and stories!

Indeed a great event. I'm fortunate enough to be local for the show.

Really, having spent some time with that bike, I would have been puzzled if it hadn't. Still, I'm really glad to hear it. It gives the whole event some credibility!

And I. once again, want to thank you for making this gem mine. As you know, I am truly enamored with this machine.

I'm certainly willing to concede the victory, but I did come in a close second! This was further aided by the fact that I forgot to put the entry number tag for voting on my bike until nearly noon, and that I had to take the bike and leave at 1. Still, for the category, I fully concede. That Norman is fabulous! :thumb:

That said, I sure wish I'd brought my '63 Hetchins. Harvey won by a landslide with his '65 Paramount, 'cause there was no other bike in that category!

Other categories were overflowing, tho. It was a great weekend with fabulous people and stunningly beautiful bikes.

LeicaLad, you are very gracious and kind in your remarks. I have to say that your Wrigley is a beautiful machine and one that, were it my size, I would covet. :thumb:

Had you brought the Hetchins, there was only one other Non-American bike there. Hetchins always get a lot of attention at shows so it probably would have taken the category. I'd really love to see that bike one day. :)

There were a ton of bicycles once you got past the late 60's. Definitely a great time and tons of great bikes.

Yes he did, he bought my vote for 2 beers. Ftwelder got it right

I wish I had taken time to take pictures for the forum! I did get a picture of the young man that took my Ruby Red home.

That Legnano is neat. Love the fenders. Original paint?

If that is the bike I think it is, the paint is original. With that said, unfortunately I didn't take any pictures worth speaking of.

Yes it is original. The owner is Dale Brown, who also owns Cycles d'Oro in Greensboro, NC and is the Classic Rendezvous Listmeister. He was a pretty fair frame builder as well, back in the day.

Are the results posted somewhere? I was too busy talking to friends to pay attention to the prize announcements. I brought 2 bikes with me and if I am not mistaken the one entered in the 1968-1973 category won (there were something like 10 bikes in the category).

photogravity 06-11-12 09:13 PM

CdM, I do not believe the results were posted anywhere... I know that my Norman Rapide won Non-American 1950-1959, Harvey Sachs won 4 or 5 categories and Dan Artley's Bishop won Best in Show. What bikes did you enter in the competition? Maybe I'll remember... You brought a couple of Italian bikes along, correct? I guess that Wayne will eventually post them to the website.

If Dan Artley's Bishop was the one Chris B. had at NAHBS in Austin, I could easily see why.

The one in Austin was easily my favorite at NAHBS that year.
