Klein Quantum II, this is a classic, isn't it?

Hi,

This thing caught my eye and I think I might buy it. I'm so in love with the red... just look at how saturated it is... argh...

What can you tell me about this? Seller says it's pre trek. I say it's gorgeous whatever...

Any pre-Trek Klein is a classic in my book. Unique, innovative design, outstanding paint, cool drop outs. I really like Kleins. And some of their MTBs are really spectacular. Need to put regular drops on that bike, and you should be ready to go. Date codes on components should verify whether you are pre-Trek or not. Check for dents, the tubing is on the fragile side.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

I think it's a 1995. Trek bought Klein in 1995 but didn't change much until 2002 when they moved production to Waterloo. Most people mean "Chehalis-made" when they say "pre-Trek".

Pressed in BB might be an issue but other than that no proprietary problems. Very nice.

Ask the seller for the serial number and I can maybe tell you a little more.

Love me some Kleins! I have three - a Quantum Race, a Performance, and a custom Team Light from the early days (frameset only). Older Kleins are meticulously-constructed and bombproof, just don't drop anything on the thin-walled aluminum tubes or they'll dent. Enjoy!

Brakes look like tricolor, but [triple!] cranks, RD and brifters look like 6500. Those are mid-90s Mavic helium wheels. They were very top of the pile back then.

A very cool ride but just a heads up that there's more unoriginal than the flipped and chopped bars. I'd love an old Klein.

My thoughts were the same, many unoriginal parts on that one... Glad to hear the Wheels are nice, but I don't really like the red rims in combination with that frame.

Thanks everyone for the opinions, I must admit I'm kind of excited about the bike

If you wind up getting this bike, I'd be happy to have a conversation about how I could get those wheels in my possession.

I don't know what the used market is like in switzerland, but $600 would be just about right for that bike here.

Yes, 600$ is about wat he's asking and I think it's a fair price.

Serial number: K in a circle then 5510595063

Seller thinks it's 1996...

Klein's are sleeper beauties, bring more and more $ since sellers learned to google...

Nice wheels, but they don't match the bike. Perhaps a trade could be in order.....

Good eyes, IthaDan. Lookes like the FD is Ultegra, too. Big cogs in back, triple, pursuit bars.
Looks like it was built to be a climber. Lube on the rear wheels, good wipedown on the frame.
Seller knows what he has, knows how to use it, maintains it.

I never had any interest in aluminum bikes until I saw my first Klein Quantum.

Is it possible to use those VO BBs that don't require threads on this bike? I am really just curious. I realize that it is possible to change the bearings relatively easily.

I'm not sure about VO - they'd probably be able to tell you. Phil Wood makes replacements that are essentially the same as the OEM BBs, but the really deluxe way to go is the Phil Wood Threadless Outboard bearings so you can use a modern crank...

Great looking bike, I kinda like the wheel set. It needs yellow side wall tires and yellow cables.

I really don't know what to do with it yet. One way would be yellow sidewalls and cables, yes, how they did it in the nineties :S Another would be black cables and black tires, to hghlight the spectacular frame color...

Beautiful bike. A pair of drop bars and some new tape and you have an incredibly capable do everything bike.

... If you ever want to talk about the wheels, you know where to find me.

Great bike! I have a '99 Quantum and a '97 Stage Comp. My favorite quote about the Quantum I read someplace is "....it climbs like a mountain goat on steroids."

Good? Excellent.
Fast? Well, bikes aren't fast but a Klein will not slow you down, let's put it that way.
I've always liked them, but there were some with some paint schemes that were really good.

Klein bike with full dura ace components and ts swiss wheels is worth $600. Year made the bike i not know. The bike i ride now is greg lemond 2002 steel frame. Is weight around 24 pounds with out two bottles water. That sounds heavy bike for today standards. year made is 2002 i belleve. Is ride okay but i cant in flat go more than 29.7 miles. That i do for short distance 3 times yesterday. In flat trail. Lighter bike is possible to pass over 30 miles in flat or is my legs need get stronger i know i start ride again after i have stop ride for 3 years. In that 3 years i have ride but not so much as i used to do ride every day 20 miles in hilly bike trail
