Time to loose some weight

I have noted with some curiosity as to why Trek had a tandem in 1992 with 36/40 Deore XT hubs, then it disappeared, and returned in 1994 on with Sanin 48-hole hubs.

This may be a clue:

I took it for a ride yesterday and noticed the front wheel was badly out of true. When I pulled it off to work on it, this is what I found. I have never seen this on a Deore XT SF hub. I wonder if it is still under warranty.

I repalced the front hub, but am now running 48's on the tandem. I guess I now have a nice set of touring wheels.
