Bikes: Raleigh Supercourse

I buy brake and shifter housing locally at REI. I've heard it's relabeled Jagwire.

Found a roll of clear housing at a swap meet last Saturday.

I'm just the opposite. I keep a myriad of lined brake housing, but just two colors of the SIS derailleur housing. I keep red, yellow, blue, white, neon green and black housing. Plus I have salvaged quite a bit of the clear stuff above from donor bikes.

I rarely use black, I usually match the color of the bar tape, sometimes I match the main color of the frame. I buy the brake housing in bulk from Niagara.

I stopped using galvanized cables and unlined housing quite a while ago.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

Shimano SLR is really nice stuff. That's what I've got on my bikes. Jagwire is what I used to use, and use when I occasionally flip a bike. And stay away from that disgusting crap they sell at x-mart.

As for using it on flip bikes, why sell someone a half-assed bike whose cables are going to work less than optimally even when new, and rust up in no time? Jagwire isn't that expensive. Especially if you buy it from a place like Niagra. Even at the LBS, which is where I always get mine since I don't flip much, it's not that expensive /foot. When I overhaul a bike, I clean it well, repack all bearings, new bar tape, make sure tires and chain are decent, and use decent cable housing(basically always needed) with new cables(when needed). I advertise as much in my ad(that I've done things right with quality products and include what products I've used) and always sell my bikes for a great price right away. People appreciate a clean, well tuned bike with decent parts. And the lined housing is going to result in better braking and shifting, which is more likely to please them on a test ride. Why not do it right rather than skimp and give someone crap housing? ...Sorry to get off topic. I just really dislike reading things like that.
