Lets see your classic vintage carbon bike and story!

I purchased a 87 or 88 Kestrel 4000 recently with the intention of selling. I rode the bike and decided to make it one of my stable. I bought the bike as equipped with Campagnolo Record C and Shimano Dura Ace along with Asso Aero Rim laced to Pelissier 2k Pro Hubs! I have to say it's worth every bit money and time spent going to Michigan to pickup the Kestrel 4k, except for the tubular rims, but I'll live with them until I find a set of clincher rims.

I don't know if there's an exiting thread pertaining to Classic Vintage Carbon Fiber Bikes, so I thought why not include a little history behind the carbon bike to make it interesting!

Here's a direct link:

I've had several CF's and the Kestrel 4k is amazing in comparison to more modern CF's!

My 1972 Line Seeker CF race bike (Restoration/build still in progress):

Here's the post thread link that describes it's history so far with me:

My 1985 Vitus Plus Carbone 7:

I restored/built it with the goal to come up with a "Tout Mavic" buiild at first, but it turned into a "Tout French" build instead, as I decided that it was a higher and better goal for me personally, as I did not like all the stuff that Mavic had in it's SSC group. Took me about two years to get it to this completed stage.

My 1986 Alan Carbonio Record:

Your CF bikes are awesome, especially the Alan Carbonio! They look like works of art, not the molded kind(that includes my Kestrel 4k!

Gioscinelli,

That is an awesome Kestrel. I always wonder where do you keep finding these cool bikes, now I know you are willing to go far for them. Very cool, enjoy it!

This is a early 90's Kestral SC200i equipped with Shimano 600. The high-profile wheels look cool but they are no fun to ride. This bike was crashed and the derailleur hanger broken off.

The owner tossed the bike next to the curb assuming it was destroyed. The front wheel was gone by the time I got the bike. It had a lot of scratches in the paint but none were very deep. I happened to have a perfect match of touch up paint from some other project.

I welded a new hanger on and patched up the paint. I am going to fit it with DT shifters and use those on a tandem.

It is very fast, I like it quite a bit. I think the color makes me ride faster!

Chombi, I have to say you've done an outstanding job on restoring that historic, early Line Seeker. Well Done. Best looking bike *ever* (in my opinion). I've read the engineer cured those tubes in his home oven. May take me a lifetime or longer, but one day I'd like to own a 60cm Line Seeker or Graftek. Thanks for posting.
