The seller probably read or was told about this thread and that it might go for $2500 as some estimated. He probably put the reserve at $2k.

photogravity 08-03-12 08:02 PM

But is surely it can't be worth $2k. It is a Schwinn Paramount which is a common bicycle unlike a Norman Rapide or even a Hercules Kestrel. Arguably the Norman is a more desirable bike to anyone with distinguishing taste.

While I agree the Norman Rapide and Hercules Kestrel are neat-o bikes, this Schwinn is in a league of its own - so much so that I am aiming at over $2K and am now the high bidder at $1550 :)

I didn't exactly have that money laying around (in point of fact, there was only .53 laying on the counter when I got home from my Colnago Super test-ride), either, but then I checked behind the cushions on my couch ;)

It's too big for me, too, but I figure I'll just keep that post slammed and find myself a 90mm stem.

Oh that is NICE!

One less bidder here, I have enough Paramounts and too little space. I do hope someone from C and V gets it.

photogravity 08-03-12 08:51 PM

I just managed to take the high bid at $1900.69. Still hasn't hit the reserve? WTF? This is totally crazy.

photogravity 08-03-12 08:54 PM

LOL, that's what I'd do too. I'd also wear a "cup" when I ride the bike to avoid getting my 'nads crushed should I need to get off the bike unexpectedly.

That's impossible - my high-bid is over $1900.69! I'm contacting Ebay - something is seriously jacked-up here!!

PG - c'mon, please be the gentleman I know you to be and back off on the auction. I don't have a white bike and I certainly don't have one that's too big for me; after realizing my gaffe, I am trying to put things right all in one shot with this beauty.

Have a heart ;)

Hey DD, if you win it, I have an "old oval logo" 90mm Cinelli 1A stem that I'll trade you for a 110 or 115 version if you have one. It's not perfect but very presentable...

I dunno. Here's a screenshot showing I'm high bidder but not meeting the reserve.

Dd is messing with you.he either bowed out or his last bid was $1600.

retyred 08-03-12 09:22 PM

OK fellow C&Vers, time for everyone to self medicate and calm down. Right now two bidders are engaged in a p*****g contest. Besides, $2K is chump change for that Paramount. :love:I had my 1972 chrome Paramount sold for $1500 on CL but decided to keep it. Now, when it gets to $2500+.... None of what happens in the next nine days matters because I'm going to snipe it in the final seconds!

cyclotoine 08-03-12 09:25 PM

WHat is going on!?

photogravity 08-03-12 09:35 PM

What is the highest price an Alex Singer or Rene Herse has gone for? This baby is going to go for some insane price. My bid of 2100.98 didn't hold long. I'm tired and need to get to bed as I'm on holiday starting tomorrow morning. Besides, I'm losing interest in this bicycle if it's goes for some insane price. The dude has a reserve that is in the stratosphere. WTF? :crash:

Drillium Dude 08-03-12 09:47 PM

I'm out, too - like I was ever in ;)

I'm watching this until the end, however - I have a guess as to how high it will go, but I will probably end up dead-wrong. Someone in Japan is going to pay $5000+ for this, join the Forum and then request a C&Ver facilitate for him. That's my crazy guess, anyhow :)

Well, given that my last bid took it up to $2181.89 (my max was $2199.88) and we haven't hit the reserve, it tells me this dude wants some serious coin for this bike. I somehow think this dude is greedy.

Heh...ya think? I completely understand reserves. No one wants their $100 item to go for $.01 + shipping. I think it should be limited to a reasonable amount. High enough so you're not going to regret selling it, but low enough that it's going to be fair if it doesn't go as high as you are hoping.

May as well just put Buy it Now for $3000 if that is what you are trying to get.

mkeller234 08-03-12 10:07 PM

It's my size, but not my budget. So what would you all do if you purchased this bike? I would build it and ride it, value be damned. There are some bikes that I probably wouldn't ride.... but I wouldn't be able to resist putting this one together.

Weird, but I guess that was the state of the American racing bicycle back then. To think, that that nice looking female model is now old and ugly...wow!

I would ride it but just for special group rides for interesting conversation. I own several classic cars, I drive them too, but not everyday.

Well, old... but ugly is a bit mean.

Based on what my 2 Parmounts sold for with 'But Now' prices I'd say this is a $5k bike.

No offense but you will never understand.

You're kidding....right?

If that bike is not worth well over two grand, I'll eat it. "Worth" being a highly subjective concept of course.
I'm guessing it goes between 3 and four grand. Maybe more.

I agree. When was the last time anybody saw an un-used one for sale?
