Missed by that much

Argh. Waited all week for this. No bids. Could have bought it with the "BuyitNow". Bummer, major bummer.

Oh well, Out bid, the other guy got this one.

Zoom in on the brake pads in the other pics in the listing. This bike was never really ridden.

Fantastic paintwork. Holdsworths were arguably the finest lightweights of their day, especially the early 70's ones. Shouldn't be too cheap when something really special shows up....I know

Possibly, but the rest of the bike looks really low wear. The chainrings barely show any use too.

Why do I think that this was built by Falcon and Branded as a Holdsworth for them?

Really? Looks like a Falcon gold. The only Holdsworth Records I could find on line were silver with blue panels. Randyjawa posted one not long ago. Perhaps you are right. When would that have been?

I don't think you missed out on a screaming deal. It's in nice shape but it's just above entry level...late 60's?

edit...Ok 2 steps above entry level with the paint. Still...

Probably wasn't that close. The winner could have (and probably did) bid a more than the winning margin. Since you were the only other bidder, his bid only went up by one increment ($5) in this case. If you had bid $500 and he had bid $600, he would have won with a bid of $505.

Oh yeah, it was all about the paint and graphics. The Record was the entry level bike for Holdsworth.

I was going for a Get Smart sarcasm in the title. Maybe I'm just an old fart.

531 straight gauge, campy hubs (sport?) and Fiamme rims were a good cut above most other boom entries. We'll use the cone of silence when we talk about the Valentino Extra

I think his point is that the lack of wear on pads proves that the bike hasn't been ridden much. If so, I don't agree.

Wouldn't lack of brake pad wear indicate lack of stopping, not a lack of riding?

+1 - more than I'd pay for it and not a screaming deal. It's a fine bike, but nothing to get worked up about missing on. It's not like Sced's!

Would you believe....a Professional?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Holdsworth-P...-/170891289930

Not as clean, maybe not your size, plain-Jane possible repaint, higher shipping cost, but: BIN under $400, better frame, better parts, nicer bike. Maybe not a Professional, even? And is the rear driveside axle slot spread just a little bit? And what's up with the "MO HULA" on the top tube?

At any rate, not as graphically appealing. I usually go for frame/tubing quality over paint/graphics, even if the logos are bold and the panels many, but to each his own.

I searched completed auctions for Holdsworth and saw 2-3 silver-blue Records, all went for less, one frameset got only $60.
