Olallieberry pie at Linn's in Cambria. Linn's is a supporter of Eroica California.

Had to look up "Olallieberry". It means "berry berry", says my computer. :foo:

Anyway, the pie looks delicious!

And that Dürkopp track bike doesn't look too shabby, either.

It's just a cultivar of blackberry. I grew up in an area where they were heavily cultivated, and I never understood why they weren't called ollallie blackberries or something.

Mmmmm, pie. :)

Just to bring this around to cycling: crashing into wild blackberry brambles is really not that fun, but at least they are softer than the ground.

Cyclotouring in France means decent lunch dishes, and mrs non-fixie and I always enjoy the simple and classic offerings, such as oysters and whelks, with just some lemon and aïoli:

I don't like to spend money in restaurants, when I have lunch on a ride it's usually stuff from the fridge and pantry that I stuff in my jersey pockets.

I don't think my jersey pockets could handle a dozen oysters and a bottle of Chablis ... :(

I saw 'baked goods' popping up elsewhere, so I think it's time to revive this thread. :)

A couple of weeks ago mrs non-fixie and I were riding our bikes in Brittany, and one traditional dish there is the galette, a savory pancake, traditionally filled with ham, cheese and egg. This is a deluxe version with tomato sauce and some aromatic andouilette added to the mix:

A few days layer I had one called 'Trésors des mers', filled with leaks and topped with coquilles saint-jacques and cream. Also accompanied by the traditional bowl of cidre brut. Very tasty.

And speaking of baked goods ...

When cycle-touring in France the must-have desert is of course the Paris-Brest. Created by Louis Durand in 1910 by to commemorate the Paris-Brest-Paris bicycle race. Chock-full of delicious calories:

In France I also had galette, very nice. Did you like andoulette? It is an acquired taset (and smell), my wife hated it, for me it was ok.

Late 70s?
I'll have the Tuna Melt, a Wedge salad with green goddess, and a Cape Codder.

I love andouillette. :)

A post by MonsieurChrono in another thread made me realize I have been slacking off here. :o

So I have some catching-up to do.

One of my favorite (and also one of the largest) C&V cycling events is Anjou Vélo Vintage in Saumur, and one of its highlights is lunch. Only the French would serve a seated four course lunch for thousands of people.

A couscous salad, pasta with chicken breast, cheese, tarte aux pommes. And wine, of course. ;)

I didn't know that event, looks interesting!

That salad under the cheese is for sure mâche (corn salad), but the cheese itself could be a either a Coulommiers or a Brie (or a young Camembert but I don't think so). Do we know what it was?

I think the cheese was a Brie, but I didn't think to check.

AVV is a celebration of the bicycle in a very broad sense, with "celebration" being the operative word. Serious bicycle collectors and brevet riders may have to adjust their expectations somewhat. But those who enjoy tasting the local wines will not be disappointed. :)

I have spotted some very nice Herse, Singer and Charrel bicycles at the event, but the typical participant looks more like this. Too bad you can't hear all the squeaking and rattling noises these bikes were producing:
