I presume that Randy is pulling bikes from a Recycling Center, and not from a Landfill or a trash dump.

Nope - I get a lot of bikes from the Dump and, yes, it is illegal. However...

The manager is an environmentally conscious guy and allows me to take bikes. In fact, other Landfill sites, in the area, are considering allowing it also. One small town, near Thunder Bay, has the proposal before city council right now. And, let's face it...

Reusing is a step above recycling, is it not? We can all make a difference, if we try and go at it gently, as far as I am concerned.

That Winchester is a beauty. what a cool score!! I rarely find decent bikes at my dump, but oddly, I have picked up an astonishing collection of rifles there... Changes in lattitudes, etc...

People throw away rifles? Back home in New Zealand owning a rifle is hard enough and they are all tracked. If you want to dispose of it you have to give it to the police who render it useless before recycling.Seems... foolish to throw away a firearm that could be used by anyone.

Seems foolish to me to have firearms, in the first place, but that would be a topic for the perfect world, not the one we all live in:-(

I have found one, and only one, rifle at the Dump (Landfill Site) and that firearm was a flintlock muzzle loading wonder (sorry no pics of this event). I immediately gave the rifle to the fellow who was attending the disposal area, at the time. Though not positive, I am pretty sure that he just kept the rifle, rather than call the police. I should add that I was unaware of the legal requirements, regarding the situation, at the time.

One other time (just last July), my son and I found a whole bunch of bullets (high powered rifle bullets) in a dumpster at the Dump. It just so happened that I was chatting with the manager of the Landfill Site, at the time. He informed me that the bullets all needed to be collected and handed over to the police. He then posted one of his employees at the dumpster, informing him that the dumpster was not to be used and that no one was to be allowed to access it in any way. The manager then called the police.

My son and I said our "see ya laters", taking the load of bicycles, including a lovely Vitus 979 Campy equipped frame set(can you see it?)..,

...off to our next errand, what ever that happened to be. Upon leaving the Dump, my son presented me with one of the bullets, that he had pocketed, before he was made aware of the legal issue. That bullet still sits on my computer desk, but it does occur to me that keeping it is about as stupid as stupid can get.

Like the bikes. I'm sure you can get some gems out of that pile. My father had a box of live .222 ammo that was so old the brass was green. I'm pretty sure the primer in the caps was more than unsafe. When I saw it and showed it to him he immediatly got rid of them. Bullets in the house with no purpose is an accident waiting to happen. Speaking of bikes all my projects are done... perhaps its time to go and find another in need of rescue.
