'80 Miyata 914

Hi,

I have always wanted a Miyata and I finally landed one. With the exception of the Tange headset all the other parts are 105, including the funky triangle pedals. It is pretty sweet for a +20 year old bicycle. I have been reading a few posts about crack top tube. There is no crack but should I be worried?

So many Miyatas lately, I'm so jelly. Top-of-the-line model and full 105 group is great

Did you mean "90 Miyata 914? I have a '90/'91 Nine 14 with the same components and it is a fun bike! That is a very nice bike and you are in for some good riding.

Ciufalon,

Seller said it is a '89. The Miyata 1989 catalog has a picture of the same bike. Perhaps, the same paint scheme was offered on multiple years. I am not %100 sure on the year.

Thanks,

Bikes: Some old steel, some new steel

it's definitely not an '80, but still a sweet bike! I love my '85 912!

According to page 11 on the Miyata 1989 Catalog it sure looks just like it.

Yep, '89 sounds right. I was just referring the the title of the thread "'80 Miyata 914". I just thought maybe you meant to say '90 and I did not check the catalogs. Year doesn't much matter with these bikes. Fun and great riding machines. I'm sure this is one you will want to hang onto.

My bad, meant to say eighties. Agree, year doesn't matter much. I have not been able to go for nice long ride yet. I need to check and make sure that bearings have fresh grease.

I've got a '91 in midnight blue I'm building up with 600 tri-color components. They are beautiful bikes and I can't wait to ride it.

Tell me more about this cracked top tube. This is the first I've heard of it, do they tend to split somewhere???

I've owned two with the internal cable routing in the top tube, neither cracked. Just watch the openings at the front and rear, under the rubber gusset.
