Raleigh Shopper refurb
I picked this up last year. I'd been looking for a rough one with the intention of tearing it down, repainting it, new hubs and wheels....
I bought this one late in the evening, in the dark; looked complete except was missing the lens on the headlamp, corroded chrome. When I got it home, I rode it and the lamps lit up! I was charmed.
The next morning I saw how there was no rust on the frame and that the paint was entirely intact. SO, I ended up rebuilding it top to bottom, inside to out, including oxalic treatment of all the chrome pieces.
I'd told my daughter (almost 13) that the bike was for her. I told her that her friends would tease her for her "old lady bike" but that they'd really think it was cool; she wasn't convinced.
When she saw it with the basket on, all polished up, she was pleased. We went for a 20km ride yesterday and got the tires dirty..... Her friends think the bike's cool.
