Diamond in the Rough

She's not pretty...but I still think it's pretty special, and I love these fenders. 1968 Cinelli SC, obviously in need of some love. How much love (restoration) isn't something I've decided on yet, but if I do restore it, I'll probably gop with the Cinelli Salmon color. I'm very much looking forward to taking my first Cinelli for a spin!

Another option might be putting Windsor decals on it :D

Congrats, Aaron! A grail bike for sure.

KonAaron Snake 10-23-12 05:34 PM

The fork looked right to me, and the features are consistent date wise with the other things I'm seeing...what do you know that I don't? It's all obviously a pretty poor repaint.

Bianchigirll 10-23-12 05:37 PM

Nice looking bike. Can't wait to see her all shined up.

gaucho777 10-23-12 05:38 PM

Aaron, ignore my (deleted) comment about the fork. I would have expected to see a flat crown fork until I searched and found this beautiful example with a fork similar to yours on Cinelli Only: LINK

P.S. What do you mean "not pretty"? She's exquisite!

rootboy 10-23-12 05:44 PM

That is the most butt-ugly Cinelli SC I've ever seen !

I love it ;)

You lucky dog, you.

I don't know - it would need a NOS headset, seatpost, hubs and left crank to shine. Plus a repaint. She'll stay like this for a bit, as the worlds ugliest Cinelli SC.

The nice thing is that the world's ugliest Cinelli is still a Cinelli SC.

Poguemahone 10-23-12 06:06 PM

Great find. Backstory?

I like it as is. I'd just repack everything.

It's like a "Sleeper" hotrod SC

Thanks, no worries on comment, I'm wrong as often as right.

Not a great back story...Via listed it for the CR list, I ran over and wanted her!

that_guy_zach 10-23-12 07:10 PM

Whats the tooth count on the front chainrings?

JJScaliger 10-23-12 07:28 PM

Cool Bike! I like the windows on the lugs.

KonAaron Snake 10-23-12 07:31 PM

The filing and thinned out lugs are actually quite impressive - I'll take some other photos to demonstrate.

Assuming 52-42, not sure. Will check.

Looks like a Cinelli "SC" crown:

Wow, so cool, way too cool to be tucked away in the orange bike thread :) I bet a side-by-side photoshoot with the marnati would sum up the awesomeness of Italian bikes (and orange rigs, too!).

KonAaron Snake 10-24-12 05:38 AM

Heh - if I have time after work, I'll see what I can do!

Chainrings are 47-42.

Must you gop it at all? :D It's quite distinctive ungopped.

That's the same combination I put on my Masi. It makes a very useful half-step at least with the wider range freewheel I need.

KonAaron Snake 10-24-12 06:36 AM

Heh - one of the things it definitely needs is a much wider freewheel. My legs can NOT handle what's on there now.

I'm not sure what the fenders are - but they're Italian stainless and I'm really digging them.
