Panasonic frame...

Can anyone tell what Panasonic frame this is?
It's been repainted, and the owner says it's aluminum.

...might be a good place to start. Catalogs on the left nav-bar.

very highly doubt that is aluminum judging by the thickness of the tubes...but you can find out for sure by putting a magnet to it if you can't tell by the weight and feel alone.

Could be aluminum. check out this 1989 Panasonic brochure page of their early aluminum framed bikes.

Thanks for the replies and links.
The frame is in Michigan, and I'm in Virginia, so I can't check on it until I return in a few days..unless I get stuck here because of Hurricane Sandy!

If you can get a clearer shot of the lugs and such I can tell you if it is a flying pop-can. :-)

Actually, upon further inspection of the photo I can tell it isn't an AL-7000 or AL-9000. It looks to have conventional lugs and the rear stays don't quite jive. Add in the rack eyelets on the fork and rear lugs and I think you may have a touring model there. Will have to wait for more detailed photos to be sure.

I've seen more than a few Panasonics advertised on Craigslist as aluminum that were in fact steel. I usually email the seller and ask them if they own a magnet...
