Bikes: Fillet-brazed Schwinns

Interesting, I'm pretty sure the bike being ridden on the streets of Chicago by Oliver Popadic is a Schwinn Super Sport, and he's riding a Paramount on the rollers.

Oh man what a great film. Can't believe I never saw it before.
Man, 1975 was my first year racing. A lot of familiar faces. And the refs especially. They helped me out so much.
I raced with Oliver back in the 70's. Great guy. I ran into him a few times at home improvement stores as he was doing home remodeling for a bit. Also saw him out on the bike bath a few years back.

Wow, great memories!

For several years in the mid 70's Milwaukee held the National road race, and Illinois hosted the National track championships. The Campy van was a common site around here. It ended up for quite a few years parked about a mile or two from where I live, at RRB cycles in Kenilworth IL.

I was just in there Saturday with my recently acquired 70s RRB. Met Ron and Walter for the first time. I'm guessing they have some stories to tell.

You mean he didn't tell you ALL of his stories when you were there? When ever i pay a visit it usually leads to long conversations, most not even mentioning bicycles. Kids, farming, boats, rowing lead the categories of discussion. Ron's a great guy. Known him for almost 30 years, though now i see him more since I live right down the road from him now.

Yes, Ron told me a few stories. It kept me off the streets for a bit (to bring the thread back on-topic)...

In those years I was 23 stationed in Italy with my first real competitive road bike - None of the teams my own age would have anything to do with me - I was just another GI who didn't know anything about cycling - But the old guys 50 years and up could care less who rode with them - I was appreciative of the frequent stops made to tune up late 1950s to 1960s road bikes and listening to their stories over fantastic wine and pachuto/cheez panini - I think I had a better time and safer rides with them...

Now I'm the old guy with the old bike - Its still fun...

That was awesome!

I think the commuter bike was a Sports Tourer.

Cool to see my hometown boy John Howard in the Stars & Stripes!

Thanks for the link!
