I Scored Pink Trek 770!
I picked this up tonight from a member of my local bike club. It has a mix of OEM and replacement parts. Campy cranks, seat post, derailleurs, and shifters. Stronglight head set. Wheelsmith hubs and spokes with Mavic MA40 rims. 3ttt stem and Nitto bars. Not included were brakes or levers.
It has a decal on the top tube that says 700 Series, but the chain stay protector is too torn up to be legible. I believe the serial number is 147833, it is hard to read that first number.
Here is a quick pic. It's a little bit rougher than the pic shows.

The frame is in good shape.
A little surface rust under the top tube, the paint has numerous scrapes and scratches, but no dents.
This thing is light. Of course having no brakes helps in that department.

BenA,
I responded to your earlier post from my phone, so I didn't realize who you were.
The thread you started about your pink 770 was the reason I guessed that the bike I found was one, as well. Great job on your restoration. It looks tremendous.
I've been keeping my eyes open for a nice steel framed Trek for some time now. I missed out on a red one, maybe a 410, this past spring. I think I'll like this one more.
Right now it is too soon since I got mine to know what path I will take with getting it back on the road. It really just needs brakes, cables, and bar tape but I'd like to take my time and do it right. There is no hurry as the full time riding season ended a couple of weeks ago.

You'll have a couple decisions to make during the fix-up. I wanted to be pretty close to the original, but I could NOT put those caramel gum hoods back on, or the tan side wall tires. I think Trek just wanted to ignore that these looked like crap on a pink and white bike. I had to go with white hoods and black tires (though might consider white sidewalls in future!). Good luck again, and stay in touch. I would love to see where you go with it.

BenA my name is Bill. Feel free to PM me if you like.
I printed off the color codes you posted in your thread and took them to a local auto paint supply shop.
The guy there could not find them in their database. Are you sure the info you provided is accurate?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure its correct. The trouble with Dupont is that they have more than one database i understand. He really should be able to find it with just Chromabase Atlas Purple - it would not have a name if it was not a real color I think. But, I might go right to the dupont distributor and skip the autobody shop. If you still have touble, you probably could order a pint directly from the place my bike painter seems to have gotten mine from: Auto Value in Milaca, MN (mine mixed on 6/24/2011). I tried to take a photo with my phone of the paint can, but it won't email - either way, the info i put in the other post is correct, i double checked.

Time for an update on my 770. I lightly sanded the bad rust spots under the top tube and did a bunch of touch up. It looks good from 10 feet away.
Using the bathroom scale method of measuring, it weighs just under 20 lbs.
I replaced the bars and stem with a better looking 3TTT set. Added some Campy brakes and installed a set of Suntour Cyclone levers I had in my stash. New cables, tubes and tires. Ignore the pedals and saddle as they are only on there while I'm still fine tuning the bike.

That is a very cool bike, dig the color. However I would not trust the accuracy of your bathroom scale. If that actually weighs less than 20 lbs, I'll be pretty shocked!

Missed it when you posted the first time around but it certainly is shaping up - nice snag Bill!
What saddle are you contemplating?

Guys, I'm not hung up on the bike's weight. That's why I said that I was using the bathroom scale method.
It I was a weight Weenie, I'd weigh 170 not 195.

Nice. I would get some brake hoods or wrap your tape around these a bit more so that that slice of metal isn't peeking through. New saddle is a must. Other than that, looks very nice.

Nice find! Looks great but deserves a nicer saddle - something like a Concor or Regal would really set it off.
I won't opine about the weight, but will mention that my cheap little Ebay scale seems to do a pretty credible job. It's the 10g-40kg model.

I like Rolls saddles a lot, they're easy to find, and they're more or less period correct for the bike. Nice bike btw and nice job of touching up the paint job. I have a Trek 720 that needs a lot of touching up. If you're doing this for a living, let me know,
