Mechanical help willing by area thread?

Just an idea since there are so many "how do I do this?" and "what tools do I need" etc. threads. We already have a thread for
purchase facilitation so how about those of us that might be willing to help a fellow BF'er mechanically?
I would be willing to help in the San Leandro/Oakland Ca. area for instance since I have tons of tools...
Seems like it would be a great way to meet and get to know other members too.

Good ideal, I'm always willing to work on a bike, I'm in central Indiana, and have the capabilities to sandblast, weld and paint and I have tons of tools, good music and beer.

Kind of sounds like a personal dating add, don't get to excited, I'm married.

Bianchigirll 11-22-12 04:08 PM

Sounds like a fun idea we can cross reference the facilitators thread. Harrisburg Pa for me.

OH I also help with drop ins on ARs and 10/22s :)

I am in central NC but travel the east coast pretty regularly. I am a vintage friendly IGH type, but can also work on anything built prior to brifters :D Closest large city to me is Raleigh, NC.

Aaron :)

I'm in Medford Oregon and always out to help out a fellow rider. I never ask for anything but a positive attitude and corny jokes are always welcomed.

RobbieTunes 11-22-12 06:45 PM

Eastern NC. I am a mediocre wrench, but the bikes seem to come out OK.

Vonruden 11-22-12 06:53 PM

My brothers called me "Strip" growing up, due partly to lack of wrenching abilities. I blame it on the tools I had at my disposal, still you probably don't want me touching your bikes.

gomango 11-22-12 07:21 PM

Happy to help in the Twin Cities.

Bit of a hack though. :)

Anyone local to me probably knows me already...

I hang out at Bikeworks (north) most Saturdays and do pop down to the south shop every couple of weeks where I volunteer my time and am now certifiable.

:)

Far west burbs of Chicagoland..................I have plenty of tools and an extra workstand, not to mention a pretty healthy stash of parts, frames and project bikes. I'm no whiz but I'd be happy to offer assistance to someone in need.

jettore 11-22-12 07:56 PM

I'm in Philadelphia. Have been slowly building a bike tool set and can help in most basic issues.

I would like to build a set of wheels one day if anyone local would be willing to give me a hand.

Western North Carolina, quite a few tools, semi-annual rust marathon. Co-op has really crazy hours, or I would spend time there.

John E 11-22-12 08:51 PM

I live in North Coastal San Diego County, have lots of spare parts and a pretty full complement of tools, and know how to use them. I am seriously considering opening a bike kitchen when I retire 8 years from now.

Consider this advance notice... I seriously want to move to Las Vegas one day.

Though I'm nowhere near the level of some of the masters who post here, I do understand the basics involved in maintaining most kinds of bikes. If you're in Colorado Springs and need a hand truing wheels, repacking your bottom bracket, pulling a freewheel, etc., I don't mind offering up what help I can.

Nope.

Mind you... I am in Edmonton.

I can do most things plus the major surgery although that falls into the category of what I do for a living.

:)

When I am in Portland, Oregon my dance card is usually full before I even get there and I strive to help with a local bike charity there whenever I can.
