Mechanical help willing by area thread?

Just an idea since there are so many "how do I do this?" and "what tools do I need" etc. threads. We already have a thread for
purchase facilitation so how about those of us that might be willing to help a fellow BF'er mechanically?
I would be willing to help in the San Leandro/Oakland Ca. area for instance since I have tons of tools...
Seems like it would be a great way to meet and get to know other members too.

Good ideal, I'm always willing to work on a bike, I'm in central Indiana, and have the capabilities to sandblast, weld and paint and I have tons of tools, good music and beer.

sloar 11-22-12 04:05 PM

Kind of sounds like a personal dating add, don't get to excited, I'm married.

Bianchigirll 11-22-12 04:08 PM

Sounds like a fun idea we can cross reference the facilitators thread. Harrisburg Pa for me.

OH I also help with drop ins on ARs and 10/22s :)

I am in central NC but travel the east coast pretty regularly. I am a vintage friendly IGH type, but can also work on anything built prior to brifters :D Closest large city to me is Raleigh, NC.

Aaron :)

Henry III 11-22-12 06:29 PM

I'm in Medford Oregon and always out to help out a fellow rider. I never ask for anything but a positive attitude and corny jokes are always welcomed.

RobbieTunes 11-22-12 06:45 PM

Eastern NC. I am a mediocre wrench, but the bikes seem to come out OK.

Vonruden 11-22-12 06:53 PM

My brothers called me "Strip" growing up, due partly to lack of wrenching abilities. I blame it on the tools I had at my disposal, still you probably don't want me touching your bikes.

gomango 11-22-12 07:21 PM

Happy to help in the Twin Cities.

Bit of a hack though. :)

Sixty Fiver 11-22-12 07:24 PM

Anyone local to me probably knows me already...

I hang out at Bikeworks (north) most Saturdays and do pop down to the south shop every couple of weeks where I volunteer my time and am now certifiable.

:)

Far west burbs of Chicagoland..................I have plenty of tools and an extra workstand, not to mention a pretty healthy stash of parts, frames and project bikes. I'm no whiz but I'd be happy to offer assistance to someone in need.

jettore 11-22-12 07:56 PM

I'm in Philadelphia. Have been slowly building a bike tool set and can help in most basic issues.

I would like to build a set of wheels one day if anyone local would be willing to give me a hand.

Western North Carolina, quite a few tools, semi-annual rust marathon. Co-op has really crazy hours, or I would spend time there.

John E 11-22-12 08:51 PM

I live in North Coastal San Diego County, have lots of spare parts and a pretty full complement of tools, and know how to use them. I am seriously considering opening a bike kitchen when I retire 8 years from now.

Consider this advance notice... I seriously want to move to Las Vegas one day.

Though I'm nowhere near the level of some of the masters who post here, I do understand the basics involved in maintaining most kinds of bikes. If you're in Colorado Springs and need a hand truing wheels, repacking your bottom bracket, pulling a freewheel, etc., I don't mind offering up what help I can.

Nope.

Mind you... I am in Edmonton.

I can do most things plus the major surgery although that falls into the category of what I do for a living.

:)

When I am in Portland, Oregon my dance card is usually full before I even get there and I strive to help with a local bike charity there whenever I can.

I might need to look you up for the non bike / non firearm related things.

russd32 11-22-12 10:32 PM

Cheery semi-overweight man in search of other bicycle enthusiasts for NSA wrenching. Classic bikes are a plus but not required. Also enjoy working on cars, guns, and beer in no certain order. PM with nudes if interested. Located in Central, IL about 1.5 hours south of Chicago

I and She Who Is My Partner And Lover (SWIMPAL) are planning to move to Pertland Ergon in 6-7 months. If it can't wait, PM me. Payment in beer, bike forks, or goodwill only; no other currency accepted, though if you're smart, you won't pay me in beer until after the job's over.

We might still be there in 6-7 months depending on how quickly or slowly my wife's visa application takes... would be nice to hook up with our respective SWIMPALS.
