Bikes: they change so much I'm tired of updating this
trek 500 question
i'm about to get a 1983 trek 500. it has all the original suntour parts. suntour vx rear derailleur and ar front derailleur and super custom cranks. the frame and fork are in great condition and im keeping this since i finally found a steel trek that fits me. whats your opinions on these components? should they be upgraded? i have a nice dura ace crankset on another trek im selling, i thought about swapping the cranks and upgrading the derailleurs.and this is a prime canidate for a brooks saddle.

For a personal build, my focus would be on the wheels first (bike came with 27s). Then I would pull out some Cyclone generation 1 components from the bin, just because I like them. I am not a big fan of the custom cranks either, so I would probably swap them. Vx is a good RD if that is what the bike has (bike was spec'd with ARX GT rear, nothing wrong with it either).
On personal bikes, I tend to rob the bin a bit, with one of the nicer sets I have on hand. I use a lot of Suntour bits, so those would be the first I pulled out. My last personal vintage build got Cyclone G1, build before that got Superbe Pro.
