I'm not the only one after all!

That movie has been tragically under-appreciated. Gator wants his money!

After I posted that, I realized it should have read:

All this talk about forming circles, pink wheels and Sachs makes me wonder what forum I am in. Maybe a nice basket on the front would be appropriate.

I can't wait to see how you build it up. I just wish I had the parts inventory you do.

I can't believe I'm the guy with the answer instead of another stupid question!

The Italian thread pattern gives the threads a shallower flank angle than what we're used to seeing. So they actually do look kind of squashed, even when they're not. We're just seeing more of the sides of the threads, and they're relatively wider at the base.

*edit* Oh, wait. I just went back and actually *looked* at the photo. Yeah, they do look kind of flattened out. I wonder if it wore an out-of-spec headset for some time?

The headset went on easily - no issues at all. I'm not sure why it looks so flattened in the photo...it doesn't look that bad in person. There is no problem, which I think is clearly disappointing to some

At least the fork didn't look bent!

It's good that the headset threaded on easily. The next test is whether it holds its adjustment. If the damage is bad, the hardware will slip over the threads.

Tom - at what point are you going to believe that maybe the fork steerer is OK? It's roughly your size...if you came over and rode it, would that make you stop?

Yes - it's an invitation.

If you'll forgive me, you're a little testy Aaron. Nobody here is wishing you headset woes. The threads do look a little deformed in that picture, but pointing it out doesn't equate with harassing you or being argumentative. Or being disappointed that it is in fact OK.
Timmy was out of line but the rest of us here are only thinking of your bike's well being, I'm sure.

So.... relax, man. T'aint no schadenfreude going on here.

And, oh, by the way.... I think that rose is a little more Stanley Mouse than Georgia O' Keeth.

Yeah, if that was a Georgia O'Keeffe style-flower, well, I'd expect it would need to be on a ladies frame.

Nice score, Aaron. The only problem is that it isn't red. I mean, the white looks wonderful, but everyone knows red De Rosas are faster.

^ Agree with the red - the fastest bikes are of course red - but If I'm not very much mistaken, this special edition only came in pearl white.

The problem with red De Rosas is that when you ride one, people are constantly throwing dead cats at you. BBM still has bruises.

^ This also came in orange? I actually never knew that, and I've never even seen a pic of an orange one (and now I'd like to).

An old Gita catalog I once had depicted the Eddy Merckx limited editions in white and orange, but the 35th Anniversary in the catalog was only represented in pearl white, both in the photos and the writeup.

I'll have to do a Google search now

I know this is beating a dead horse, but it dawned on me what may have happened with the steerer threads. ISO and Italian headset threads are nearly identical. Could an English headset have been used on an Italian threaded steerer? Or vice versa? If that's the case, best not to repeat switching back & forth.

Can't just assume the fork threading matches the BB.
