Schwinns never die...
... they just turn into zombie SS/FG's, makeshift CX bikes and the like. If your bike is a vintage Schwinn converted to anything, let's see it! Right now, I'm riding a '74(?) Le Tour SS/FG conversion in clown colors. Clocks in at just under 26lbs with the rear brake (recently) removed.

I took this sad tired old 1965 violet Varsity...

And made it into this:

Then this sad old tired 1965 violet Varsity found it's way to my house...

I needed something for the buildoff on the Rat Rod Bike forums so it got the same treatment...

Now there are two...

I just have this one Schwinn.
For me, it represents a lot of what Schwinn did so well: that solid feel, that sprung saddle, that strong front fork, that heavy chrome, that Ashtabula cloverleaf crank, that big dork disk - and one of the most stylin' paint colors for 1974.

Now I can basically see what it will look like with wheels - same color scheme!
Out of curiosity, what crankset and gearing did you go with?

Aww, gee... that looks like my old Superior the way it was when I first bought it. Was there another like it? I'd love to recreate my old bike.
I repurposed a Mississippi Schwinn Le Tour as a coffee-shop bike. It was a 7-speed, now it's a single-speed:

A champagne colored '82 Schwinn Traveler found its way into my garage a couple of weeks ago. I'm considering turning it into a commuter with flat bars, or maybe just re-greasing everything and leaving it as is. I haven't decided yet.
