 That's the most logical choice, for sure!

cool! what size wheel does it take?

The Phantom takes 26 inch wheels, if you're asking about the Colnago it takes 700 x 23.
BTW the Colnago is still here but its going back to the orig owner as he really liked the way it cleaned up! :)

Probably originally 571 26ers.

I'm glad you decided to keep her as a rider. Heck, I might even need to come up and pay a visit to see this and some of the other stuff you've been showing on the forum lately. Didn't you get a De Rosa or Colnago recently?

Not to much to see besides the Phantom, but your always welcome to stop on by anyways. =0)

I honestly don't know? I've had plenty of old 26 inch Schwinns but never a 1952/3. All the ones I've owned used regular 26 inch tires.

LesterOfPuppets 12-09-12 04:16 PM

Might be a 559 wheel. We've had a handful of 50s Schwinns in the shop. I'm not sure which had original wheels, though. One had 559 front and 571 in back. Was driving those guys nuts trying to get tires for that bike.

I want to see that thing all Rando'd up, VO style, with full-on 650b's, racks, mudguards and the works. You know you wanna.

Nah, I'm going to build her up as close to orig as my wallet will let me. :)

Really? I've never ridden one. I'm far to tall to fit one one comfortably. Plus, I don't think they made a spring-pack that was up to my weight.

You smaller fellas have all the luck, I tell ya...

Bah. Get an extra long seat post (in Chromoly if you're heavy) and some upright bars. One of my favorite bikes.
Yeah, it takes the 559s but I've had 590s and 597s on mine, just to see how it rode and 27s on my other one. I'd be pretty tempted to get creative. I think the only holdup would be the lack of brake drillings on the fender bridge and fork.

ilikebikes 12-10-12 01:14 PM

Drum brakes.

sailorbenjamin 12-10-12 05:23 PM

Yeah. i got a set of those you know...
On the other hand, a good old coaster brake with orange rims and cream tires would look really swell.

Tulok 12-13-12 11:01 AM

Ahh, a good ol Lemon shaped bike.
