Vintage restoration - my 1st try, and also my 1st post.

1972 Schwinn Super Sport. I wanted to start with something cheap and keep it 100 dollars. I know the tires should be gum wall, but I wanted something that could be ridden, and couldn't find any with the wire bead that would stick to the rim. So, about 100 hours and 100 dollars later, I have learned a lot, and can't wait to try another one! There were a few scratches, I filled them in with acrylic paint, but need some tips on finishing.

Welcome to the forums and nice job on the Schwinn! It looks great. Something does not look quite right about the angle of your right brake lever though, it should be sitting inside of it's housing better than it is, I think. Anyway I love the colour and matching tape, well done.

nice job. i was in your shoes not that long ago, and now have five great bikes.

looks like your left lever has the suicide arm attached, and the right one doesn't. i'd probably just leave it off both...

+1 Good job! The Super Sport was a desirable bike back then. I wanted one, but could not afford the $36 more in price over the Continental I got.

Several good gumwall choices out there, most are more available on line. The tire of choice by many of us is the Panaracer Pasela.

Great Job, looks like a good, clean runner. Good choice of shooting it from the drive side too....otherwise there MAY have been some grumbling!! Welcome to the Nuthouse! I think, rotate the handlebars down just a touch (would be my preference), if you need a right side "Safety Lever" I think I have a few floating around here unused.

Nice job. And frankly, I think I've come to prefer black wall tires on many older bikes. The black walls look great.

Thanks guys. I guess I had the brake lever loose for cleaning when I took the pic, it's fine. I'd like to get a men's Japanese bike next, I have a Fuji League and love it. I need to get rid of a few bikes before I move on, I have 7. Probably not that unusual for you all.... Schwinn MTB, Nishiki 85 fixie, Cannondale mulisport 600, 85 Fuji League, 91 specialized Sirrus Triple, m favorite, 50 dollars at a pawn shop. I was thinking, it would hard to pay someone to take the care that you do yourself. Happy Holiday's to all!

Nice job and welcome to BF. The Schwinn line was a good place to start with your resto. All of us have started out the same way pretty much, so you are in good company here.

Ehh, what's that Schwinn MTB you mentioned ? 3speedslow

Nice bike, nice restoration and Pictures. Reminds me of Christmas' past when Mom & Dad had a bike under the Christmas Tree for me. Hey, I still got 11 hours till Christmas..."Tiny Tim, is that Parmount still hanging in the shop around the corner?"

Merry Christmas to all!
