klein beater?!? be afraid...
8 Attachment(s)
not necessarily a beater but...picked up the frameset and built it up ghetto stylin (rear shifter and front brake only) for now - rides great - i know i have done something very blasphemous and i feel really wrong about it but...i'll let you - my cv brethren - be my true judge :o

Stunning frame, that paint is crazy. What makes it a beater?!
|
That's no beater! Ok, flat bar conversion, but still... Way nice.

basically - i just built it up with some parts i had 'laying around' and couldnt wait to ride it |
There are two trains of thought I pursue when building a bike up - restore or seek function. The bike I ride the most is a beater bike and is comfortable and does not look very nice. Exactly what I want for around town errand running, or riding would, perhaps, be more appropriate...
http://www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpe...ll_TQF_L_1.jpg By the way, you should see the Specialized up close. It has actually been beaten! By the way, again - that is a beautiful bike! |
thanks randy
you know what happened i thought i liked the idea of snagging a nice frame (i have an aelous awaiting build as well - no rush) and building it up but then the cost...ah yes the cost... well - anyway - there's alot to be said for finding complete bikes right anyway - hence the 'minmialist' (yet functional) build up its quick and light though - and i'm diggin |
I would want to get that on the road ASAP if I just got it too! Good luck with it!

Sweet ride Marley!

Nice bike, congrats. :thumb: The first "decent" bike I bought here in Seattle was a Klein, model unknown, that I bought as a bare frame, from a track racer. It was the early 90s, & I'm thinking it must have been through a newspaper ad, because I'm sure I wasn't using CL yet back then. It was a solid color, light blue or grayish, and a lot of people tried to buy it from me. I finally traded it to a pretty good friend, who was just madly in love with it, LOL. :D BTW, I put flat bars on that one too, & everyone thought I was mental or something, because flat bars weren't exactly popular yet, on road bikes. ;)

Nice Air Horn, that must be fun on the MUP. Scare those ipod wearing idiots straight out of their skin.
|
I'm sorry, but that is just awful. A Quantum in that condition deserves much better than that. And it is clearly not your size if you have the seatpost stuffed into the seat tube that far.
|
Noooooooo!
|
I agree with the "Noooo!" crowd. I'm no fan of oversized aluminum, but Klein was pretty far ahead of the game. That frame is perfectly competitive with today's carbon and Ti frames and deserves better than the beater treatment.
OTOH, it's just another welded aluminum frameset. If treating it like some old POS floats your boat, then have at it. The world will continue to turn. |
nice beater
|
That is very nice, and I love the paint on it!
|
run the cable to the rear brake and get some single speed chainring bolts so you can remove one of the chainrings and ur good to go
|
My Klein is true beater....

great comments everyone - all of them - i did feel like i was committing a bit of a 'klein crime' by underdressing it - anyway - its all good
devinfan really nailed my attitude though - i love to ride em - and in the case of my kleins - i love lookin at them - she'll be built nice one day (or not) anyway - thanks for the feedback - CV forum is absolutely the best |
Dude that frame is straight up sexy. What size is it and how much did you pay for it if you don't mind my asking.

I think I'll wait a while... |
I just picked up a 63cm Klein Quantum that was for sale 2 miles away from my office. It looks to be a 1990 and not nearly as in as nice a condition as yours. I had to measure it 2 times because with the oversize tubes it just does not look as big as my other bikes. I plan to do a total tear down and rebuild after I get a ride in on it this weekend to see how much I like it.
Do you know what year yours is? |
