Identify this cartridge bottom bracket with replaceable cartridge bearinngs

Can't seem to find any info on this one. Anyone seen it before? It's a cartridge bb with replaceable bearings. It's rather smooth and lightweight.

I'm no expert, but it might be an Edco.

On closer inspection, it's not an Edco...

It came out of a box of parts I bought at a swap. Sadly I have no history on it

The hour glass waisted cartridge tube is the best clue to the ID of this BB. Phil Wood BB cartridges also have a waisted tube, but they are shaped different from what you have.. The splined locking cup seems to suggest a newish product (maybe at least the early 90's the earliest). If there are no marks on it, I suspect it had a decal on the tube that fell off some time ago.

Yes, Edcos have straight cartridge tubes unlike this one.

Not only that, but I don't believe any of their BBs had splined cups. I didn't notice those until after I made the suggestion...

That's a sweet BB. Uses standard bearings?

I wish someone would make ISIS BB's this way. Sure it would have to use a larger inner-D bearing (and probably smaller balls) but it wouldn't matter if you could rebuild them yourself easily.

BTW, White Industries makes a similar BB. in that it is a simple design. it just doesn't have that additional tube protecting the axle from debris. at least that's what i think it is for.

Edco did make splined cup BB's, but they were the wacky proprietary Edco spline not Shimano comp. spline.

I'm almost certain that is a late-1990's REAL bb, the same as I put in my CX bike at the time.

Mine (113mm, JIS, English) had a single O-ring in each cup.

I don't want to look at the pictures again, because it (photo's) crashes my browsing session, but if there's a single o-ring in each cup I'm near certain it's REAL. Weight should be around 240g with the alloy cups.

REAL went out of business, and re-emerged a few years ago selling wheels iir.
I have only had to replace the bearing once in mine, and have raced over ten seasons of mostly dry cyclocross on it, plus a dozen centuries and another hundred training rides.

Good unit in other words.

Did an image search for a REAL bb, and all I found was the crankcase bb. Do you happen to know the model name?

Ditto on White Industries.

Yes, it would rock if they made ISIS bb's with replaceable bearings! (or still used ISIS at all!)
