[QUOTE=ColonelJLloyd;15382736]FYI, it's Jetsco not Jesco. The difference is not trivial.

Heh ..thanks Colonel. I think we both got it wrong. Looks like it's JESTCO...not JETSCO..... or JESCO...

thx,

Jethro

I've heard that Drano works well. Anybody ever tried it?

NO, DON'T!

I mean ...for de-anodizing parts?

^ i have not. i use the safeway private label brand spray oven cleaner. it worked on my fugi/sugino crank i did recently that had all kinds of road rash. i then used a file and only 600 grade 3m auto paper under a dripping faucet. after a dab of cheap mexican aluminum polish, it looks great. not mirror-like, but really good.

great pics. and that dancing outlaw quote came into my head as well when i saw "jesco" in an earlier comment.

the mothers is one of the best tips I've got off bike forums. even with no sanding it improves old cranks big time.

If it doesn't have any really bad scratches you can skip the 400 & sometimes the 600, once you are down to the 2000 you will see how it's going to look more or less, just not as bright. I have a twin wheel buffer also, but I still like the shine I get doing it by hand better, although I really do despise the sanding part. I have been polishing almost non stop since November trying to get a few projects ready to go, most of it I do while drinking my coffee surfing BF & listening to music every morning.

Glenn, The Olmo's crank arms aren't too bad at all, but good for practicing and learning. I'll post a before photo later today.

miamijim: Looks like those cranks were in really bad condition with deep corrosion pits. Do you have some before pics?
My Stronglight 93 cranks last nearly a year with mothers and without wax. They look like chrome in finish. Although I really like the bling, I don't remove the anodization unless the part looks really bad. I have some Universal 61 in raw that look like jewels when polished with Mothers.

Ha. That would explain why it was difficult to find.

It's tiny little granules that you dissolve in warm water. The part will need to be submerged for best results.

Recently decided to try my hand at this with a Stronglight crankset I bought locally. Think it turned out pretty good. I could've kept going, but ran out of motivation.

Can someone confirm for me that Campagnolo Nuovo crank sets are semi matte Clear anodizing and the chainrings are raw aluminum?
