I considered then "Useless Glide". I was given a chain and freewheel by Shimano before they first came out. I was to ride them for a month then report. I took them off after 3 weeks. The chain had stretched so much that it skipped. When Shimano picked them up, they were a bit surprised. "You did not use many of the cogs?" True, it was a 14-28 and the last two never saw use. What did you think? I advised the test ended early as I found the chain skipping at the end of the third week. It did pick up gears a bit quicker than a Regina Chain, but it would be too expensive for me to replace chains that often.

I had bought that Shimano Uni-glide chain when I was riding 50-70 miles/day back in Spring of '77. With my stock 51/39 chainrings and SunTour 14-28 five-speed freewheel, I was a 'masher' back then. Yeah, it shifted fine, but the stretch - Oy! I bought it just before my first TOSRV. Two weeks and it was over to the LBS near Ohio State for another chain!

I'm not even sure what chain I have on that bike now, but it is getting time for a new one at around 6000 miles on it. Now I tend to gear down/spin higher/go slower since my old knees can't take mashing anymore. Chains last a lot longer, too!

Just get a nickle plated SRAM PC870 or 890 (or PC68 if you can find one) and you'll be set.

Yeah, the Regina Oro chains were cool back in the day; no way I'd pay those kinda prices for one though.

BTW, last summer I ran across a PC68 at Nashbar of all places for $15 on clearance so I picked one up and have been using it on the RRA. Seems fine so far (at about 1K miles).

Yes, there is the Regina Oro Record with Drilled side plates and a bit shorter link width, shifts a bit better, lasts just as long. I bought a lot of Regina Oro SC ( not to be confused with the cheaper Extra) chains a few years ago, but with the prices of them now.... I think for a chain that gets used up it will soon be time to sell. Silly expensive.

Yeah. Ridiculous prices on them these days. If I didn't already have several of them, I wouldn't use them either.

+1 on the PC870. I am curious though about how the KMC chains wear. Do they indeed hold up well enough to be acceptable?

Wipperman makes 9 and 10 speed chains in gold. Not sure if a 9 speed chain would work on a 6 speed freewheel, but my guess would be yes.
