Nice holster for that- beautiful example of slide rule technology. Makes me want to go down to the 14th Street Hardware and check my vacuum tubes.

Yeah, I know, confusing innit? I actually had a bicycle computer once too, but it was just too much work & thinking involved.

I have always wanted to make a coffee table top with old processors used as the tiles - I think at the center I would put my ZX80 and then the 8086s and maybe the TMC0280s (Speak-N-Spells) and on to the DX2s - All wonderful beauties - Any way - Just another project on the list... Honey???

I thought this thread was going to be about vintage cycling computers. My brother still has the Cateye Solar he bought in 1983. I think my oldest one is an Avocet 50 (the one with altimeter) that I think I bought in 1989. No, wait: the Cateye ATC that I have on my mountain bike is probably from 1988 (the year I bought the bike).

Bikes: You mean this week?

I used to love the Cateye Solar, it was the first bike computer I had. If I could get batteries for them I would look up an NOS one and mount it up! Gonzo Bob, how does your brother keep his running, what does he use for the batteries?
I remember I had a Rhode Gear cyclocomputer once that was huge, I remember it being the size of a deck of small playing cards. It had an odd mount that suspended it over the stem - mine beat itself to death one day on a country road.
And yes, I had the Avocet 70 once as well, a dandy little device. But I still mostly miss the solar.

Takes me back, Chuckk, takes me back. And those were a great improvement over the Huret Multito Odometer, which had a belt instead of the spoke pin that turned the cog on the side of earlier odometers. And navigation in general. I remember I had gazeteers from Illinois to South Dakota at one time.

I love the abacus on the handlebars!

I've seen people use abacuses (abaci?). They're fast!

I still own and use a HP 17B made in USA I got in the early 80's, the later ones were made in Singapore then eventually China was my understanding. The darn calculator still works great.

I have a Cateye Solar that I procured from a BF member here, flog00. I used SR44 silver oxide batteries that can be had at most computer or electronics shops. The computer shops sell them much cheaper than the Shack or other stores, though.

After 30 years I finally semi-retired my HP 15. It sits at home now for occasional use after surviving college, PE exam, spilled coffee, etc. The most durable calculator I've ever seen. Still on only the third set of batteries.

I remember using slide rules too, but I don't think I could remember how to use one anymore!

My first bicycle computer was a Paramount, I still have it and it still works except for the fact the sending wire got pulled. I guess if I was really into it I could just take it apart and put a new wire on.

When I was a student I liked HP calculators. My favorite is/was the 11C. I had a small collection at that time.
I also still have a Commodore 64 and a Compaq Portable III.

Here is wat is left of my collection:
