DL1 Tourist ready
 

The DL1L Tourist I picked up a few weeks ago is ready to go. I have taken it on one short (5 mile) ride and I really like it. Great riding position, rolls nearly effortlessly and tracks like it's on rails. Unfortunately it is too small for me so my wife will get to use it most of the time. Every once in awhile I will raise the seat and take it out. Now I need to find a 24" for myself. And install some KoolStop pads so that I can stop it, not just slow it down.

Fantastic find! DL-1's were made for a very long time; what is the date on the rear hub?

Thanks, the final result was certainly worth the effort. I have about 40 hours in cleaning, polishing, lubing, adjusting and of course, chasing errant ball bearings across the shop floor. I think I spent more time with chrome polish and bronze wool than everything else combined. The paint was in pretty good shape and I only had to repaint parts of the chain guard. Rustoleum semi-gloss black is a pretty good match, btw.

The date code on the hub is 74, the serial number on the frame is for a '75.

Very nice. Judging by the rear reflector it is a bit earlier than mine. What year?
The pin stripping is in much better shape than mine and I like that style of chain guard. Original tires?
