Memorial Day Score

I had to work on Memorial Day and wasn't very happy getting out of bed while everyone else was sleeping...
without really thinking, I clicked on the CL icon on my phone while I grabbed a cup of coffee on my way out the door...

Bang! A nice vintage bike right around the coner for a very nice price...quick call, and the owner said first come, first served, ugh,
I knew i was going to be late for work, lol.

Got to the seller's home quicker than the local police may have liked, (but officer, there are two other guys on the way to get the same bike...)

One quick look, I handed the seller the money, loaded up, and got the heck out before somebody else showed, haha.

Had a chance to finally snap a shot of it today, and thought I'd share. (only thing I replaced was the monster gel seat)
(and I didn't notice the bar angle until I took the pics...it's better now)

a nice suprise:

Now I just have to grow a few inches so it's not too darn big.

Hey Scott, great to hear from you....thought about you the other day when I was looking at your old Yeti in the garage. I had it out for a ride a bit ago, but forgot my camera. It rides wonderfully, and really makes me smile...thanks again for sending it my way.

The Trek was picked up with the intent of being a quick flip to fund other projects, as it is way too big for me, but now I'm a bit torn...want to steal the wheels for my Trek 720, and I'd really like to keep the 600 group for another build later.....ugh, my bike addiction is painful, lol.

Haha, absolutely, it just stinks when I'm the second guy to show after driving an hour for something nice (been there more than a few times)

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Makes the workday (even on a holiday) a little brighter, doesn't it? Some things are worth being a little late to work, i think.

Pretty sure it is an '82 613.

SJX426, it's a 61cm.

You have to be quick on good deals. With 2 buyers on the way, you did the best thing.

Again..Good Score

Not sure if it was me, but it could be...I'm pretty quick on the trigger for CL finds. Got a link to the thread?, I'd love to see it.

Thing on fork is probably a pick up for speedo...

Nice one. I'd bet you could sell the frame for a nice sum on Ebay.

This is my recent catch: '82 Trek 614

My thoughts exactly... But then there is something to be said for a complete, unmolested bicycle even if it's too big or too small.

For sure, but in this case none of the parts look original, maybe period upgrade.

Beautiful bike. How much too big for you is it? Looks like a 61-62 cm?

That's a beauty. Took me a while to figure out how the bike is standing up straight without ANY support...

I think you're right...period correct, but pretty well upgraded from stock.

If it was an "original" build, I'd be hard pressed to break it down, and would pass it along complete; but since it's not,
I'm inclinde to nab the parts I want to add to my reserve and recoup what I can with what is left. It's a shame I fit best on a
54cm, and stretch to a 56cm with my 720...this 61cm is just not going to work no matter how bad I want it to.

b dub, you can see the support rod in a couple of he pics if you look closely...I always think bikes look better when they're
not propped against an old garage door, lol.

Here's a thought, I've got this 9/10 1983 Trek 500 (56cm) I've been trying to swap on the frame swap thread. We could do a whole bike or frameset only trade if you're interested. Mine was also a it-doesn't-fit-but-it's-too-nice-to-pass-up garage sale find. Because of the size, I've done only about ten miles on it.

Last year I found a 1983 Trek 620, also in 61cm. Too big. I traded it straight across for the exact same bike, next size down, with someone here at C&V.

I've been wondering how often this works out. Good for you (I guess both of you).
