Anyone familiar with Fides, Fabrica Imola, C.O.F.M.?

I recently purchased a late 1940's frame with Campagnolo Cambio Corsa dropouts but I cant seem to find any information about it. I'm not even sure who the manufacturer is. Fides? Fabrica Imola? Any info on this frame would be appreciated. Thanks.

I take it that you know that the paint is not original and by extension that you also have no assurance that the brand or the headbadge are necessary correct for the frame. I am aware of a company Fides that made bicycle locks but not of a bike brand (apart from the apparently fictitious Fides brand from the movie "Ladri di biciclette".

The headbadge should likely be read as: "Fabbrica Cicli Fides Officina Meccanica Imola" which translates to "Cicli Fides factory and work shop Imola."

The frame looks quite nice and it would be neat to see a final build.

I am aware that it's been repainted. It looks to me like they may have used the original decals but I can't guarantee that. Thanks for the info. I'll post pictures when it's complete. I've been debating whether to use 27" or 700c wheels. I think my Universal Mod. 39 brakes are long enough to go either route.

If you can use 700 size , I would.
27" is very much related to USA.
i lived in Finland and have worked on hundreds of bikes at lbs, have only seen 4 bikes w 27.

you never said where you are from.

I'm from the states but I was under the impression that 1940's Italian bikes would most likely use 27" wheels. There is plenty of clearance between the rim and frame with 700c wheels but I think my brakes should have a long enough reach so that's what I' leaning toward.

Italy has NEVER used 27" wheels.

Nice frame. It would be nice to get rid of those Phillips head screws holding that very nice head badge on and replace with some drive screws.

Then I was misinformed. Would Italy have used a larger wheel in that time period or was the generous wheel clearance just the fashion for some builders. This is the first time I've worked on anything this old so I'm still in the dark on plenty of things. I plan on using 700c wheels for the availability and variety of tires.

It looks like whoever repainted the frameset masked off the white areas to keep them intact with the decals.
