Lucky find at the local swap meet today... Rumaging through a box of MTB junk, I found one cool pedal, and in looking for its mate (which I didn't find), I spotted this Simplex JUY 543...! Got it for a buck. While it's the correct rear derailleur for my '57 Lion Rapide (Belgian), I'm happy with the later Nuovo Record I have on it... So it's off to eBay for the JUY. Hopefully a friendly bidder overseas will want it

Yeah, that's one neat rear derailleur. Reminds me a lot ot the Simplex Tour de France I had on my Claud Butler New Allrounder.

Well heres my first catch in awhile however it was worth the wait as its probably my best yet. It was $50 which is more than I would of liked to pay but still a great deal. It is an Ochsner Road bike. The bike is in really really good shape. It was found in a small bike shop. I talked to the owner about it and he said it was customers but had been sitting there for about a year and a half. He gave me the guys number and I called and he sold it to me. I picked it up this afternoon from the shop. I posted a thread a couple days asking about this bike and got some info basically Ochsner was an importer of campy and other parts that had frames made for them in Switzerland. This one is in great shape except for the fact that the rear triangle may be slightly out of alighnment, nothing one of the shops shouldnt be able to fix. heres the specs:

Nice catch! And 50 is not too much, is my guess. Elegant little bike.
BTW, it's nothing less than remarkable how you (and many others) persistently mis-spell the name of this bike. One would assume the letters on the downtube are big enough. When in doubt, check the headtube decal: it's an ox.

I needed a ride while My commuter was waiting on a new wheel so I stopped at the Salvation Army. I was moving an ugly rattle-can painted 12 speed to get to a newer aluminum hybrid when I realized how light the 12 speed was.

I asked the clerk how much and she said 10 bucks.

Talk about sweet -- I haven't wanted to ride anything else since.

No decals. No stampings other than Fuji on the forks and Suntour on the droppouts.

Nitto stem and Nitto Olympiade bars, Suntour Ar deraileur. Sugino 2 ring crank. Dia Compe 500 brakes. Ukai rims with Miche hubs.

With it having been stripped of factory paint I doubt I'll ever figure out what model it is.

I still can't believe that this nearly free old "junker" can ride and perform so well compared to the bike I paid good money for.

If you could determine the date from the crankset, it might narrow things down. That and posting a picture or two might actually give you the answer.

Here's a two-fer I ran into a week ago at a local thrift. Bike #1 is a Centurion Accordo, in almost as-new condition. It was marked $25. Bike #2 is a Hi-Tensile Centurion mixte. It was pretty ragged but was complete. I paid the $25 for the Accordo, and they tossed in the mixte free "for parts".

The Accordo was a beautiful slate blue metallic color and a very sweet riding bike. But alas, it was too small and so was moved along to some lucky S.F. girl Monday night. The mixte needed tubes, tires, tape, a saddle, and brake levers/cables. It was filthy, but cleaned up well and has been restored to excellent riding trim. It will be moved along shortly.

Just snagged 2 pair of NOS 36 hole Sunshine Pro-Am hubs; high flange and low flange, and both in black! Under $100 for both pair including shipping, thanks to the evil eBay... For those who don't know these hubs, they're choice; easily as nice as Campagnolo Record or Shimano DA (and much less $)!

which model are you looking for, i come accross uoa and the one w/ the chrome forks. actully one store had two they looked like a his and hers - both male versions. white and in good condition.

I picked up a Schwinn Tempo last night on www.freecycle.org. I learned of the site from another member's sig line. Thanks, whoever you are! I have been commuting on my MTBs, so picking up a road bike ought to make me feel fast. I'm just glad I had the foresight to get a pump that works on schraeder and presta. It needs a new front tire and a cleaning. It has a nice Mavic wheelset as well. This is my first road bike since '88. I'm looking forward to it's nonindexed shifting. This bike must have lived in the garage, no weather damage. Woohoo!

I picked up a Miyata One Hundred, year unknown (anyone have a clue?), for $33 today at a local garage sale. Tubes were flat, chain rusty, lots of garage dust and grime, but the brakes were strong, it was just my size and the price was right in my budget for my new road bike. I figured I could fix it up with the money i saved on not buying a Trek 1000.

Little did I know, when I got home and reinspected the bike, the Shimano SIS brake levers needed to be tightened with a screwdriver and were in great shape, the tires and tubes were in perfect shape and pumped right up to 100psi and still holding, the Shimano derailleurs are in OK shape, but unfortunately the chain definitely needs replacing and the rear gears are rusty with teeth not so good.

This is my second classic/vintage bike, my first was a Jamis Boss Cruiser I found on the side of the road last year with flat tires and all sorts of muck on it. I fixed it up, rode it to the store a few times (unlocked, no one stole it as it looked pretty ratty) and sold it for $30.

SHHHH! Don't go spreading that stuff around; I've found three wheelsets in the last six months with those hubs (low flange, silver). Would hate everyone to find out just how nice they are, and they are nice... great score!

Just got a full shimano 105 group, pre-brifter, six speed. The bike it was on (Centurion Ironman) had some front end damage, noticably to the bars, and the front forks were imperceptibaly out-of-line (noticable only with candlesticks, all else looks fine). The wheelset was in perfect shape, however, as is the rest of the group. Suppose it's a tear-down, though I can find no other frame damage than the mis-aligned front drops. It was free; one of the dealers at one of the auctions I go to dropped it on me this am; I've taught him some bike mechanics and tossed a few parts/bikes his way. Pays to be nice, and I'm not turning down free 105.

Pogue, how big's that tear-down centurion? I've got a fork but no frame that would potentially match; picked up a wrecked Ironman for the 600 group that was on it not TOO long ago, and all the damage to mine was in the rear triangle; I would be averse to picking up a frame to match if the price and size were right!
