But seriously, CL is crazy nowadays.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

Well I certainly HOPE a Carbolite Peugeot isn't worth $700. I just gave one to my brother.

Funny, I was just perusing the Seattle CL this morning and I happened to see the ad he was referring to. I did my usual, "Maybe i should send this guy a helpful email to give him a realistic idea of his bikes value. OK... nah." It did look like it had pretty nice paint job, so I'm guessing it'll get around $200 in Seattle. It's a basic bike, but in very nice condition.

DavidNewton probably not, unfortunately.
Lascauxcaveman even in Seattle, the post he was referring to was asking far too much. I think the word "vintage" seems to add value from some CL seller's perspective...

i disagree with this strawman criticism and lazy sarcasm: "Those vintage bikes are nice and all, but you have to be freaking HIGH to think your entry level beaters are worth more than $50. Nice Paint!"

i just overhauled a schwinn world and made a couple upgrades. paid $60. i'm gonna list it for $220. would i pay that for it? hell no, but i also did the work (which is worth $120 alone).

You must have a strong bike market economy there I'd hazard to guess? We have the same phenomenon here in the bay area, outside of the major bike economy's though I can't picture such bikes going for 100 let alone 220 or 700 (not to say your world sport is anywhere near the moneyhole that bike in the ad appears to be) for most people though investing $120 in time is an absurd notion since you'll never see the return on that, or likely even consumables, maybe we'll get lucky and wrk101 will notice this thread since he definitely knows a lot about the flipper world.

Nice humorous CL post, but the Thought Police tend to annoy me as much.

Peugeot Racing Bike - $900 (Seattle)

One of a kind steel frame Peugeot from the 80s.

RARE!!!

Needs a tune up. Might have bottom bracket issues. I think it's a size 49 1/2 inch frame or something.
It's French! Look at that paint!

NO LOW BALLERS!!!!

Please be willing to meet by my RV in the Ballard Fred Meyer parking lot for a "test ride".

I just wish you would all leave my local CL now. Nothing to see there except over priced bikes.

I agree (by about $500) and said as much in my reply.

Saw that crazy ad yesterday...but its French!
eschlwc I haven't found many gems like the ones you posted yet, but I would love to find an older Italian as an alternative to my SS.
RaleighSport the market in the PNW seems pretty high, especially for fixes now that its a fad. Like the CL posts, some people overcharge for seemingly no reason so I don't think eschlwc is expecting too much for the flip.

I live in Bellingham and the Vancouver, Seattle and Bellingham CL posters all seem to suffer from bike price delusions. I have found a few deals but it's tough.

an italvega for $190 (tops) is not a bad deal in this climate. it's small though.

there's a club fuji for sale too, but the bastard's asking $200 for the wheelset alone!

(i know the guy a little too well, so i should be able to insult his family.)

the fact that these people aren't giving away their restored vintage bikes is so egotistical...

suburban bc has the best deals. saw a miyata fully loaded tourer listed at $100 the other day. it was too small for me, so i tried to persuade a girl i know to buy it.

you have to shop every day and act really quick.

That's the truth, if only I could convince my wife to let me keep another bike in our apartment!

So true, although it seemed like the further you got from Seattle the less inflated the prices are. I saw a Bianchi in great condition up in Skagit Valley last month for pretty cheap.

p.s. I don't remember what its called, but there's a drive-in near b-ham with some of the best waffle-cut fries I've ever had; have you heard of it?

Buy her a bike or two as well. Worked for me! Though she's gonna kill me when she sees my latest purchase in the kitchen, while in the living- and bedroom there's enough stuff to start a cycling team. Better get those bikes outta here before she gets home on monday...
