Which Kool Stop models do you guys use on typical 70's-80's (Diacompe, Universal, etc.) calipers? These? There's a dizzying number of pad configurations, but most of em don't look like they'd work.

I use these (Kool Stop Cross) on my Campy NR brakes. I also have the replacement pads for the stock holders (both black and salmon), but these work better. Toe-in is adjustable as well.

These fit regular road brake calipers even though they are listed as cantilever compatible?

^ They fit my '73 RRA with Campy NR brakes. There is a threaded and non-threaded version available. Aren't most cantis non-threaded?

I hope you realize you have dirt buildup at the front washer of the quick release. You should get on that.

i use continentals unless the calipers have reusable shoes for the other slide-in pads.

I remembering having the same trouble selecting Kool stop pads for a vintage look. I have been using the grey matter pads recently.

Yeah. Filthy. In fact, those brakes look worn out. Thus, un-safe. Despicable.
Ditch them before it's too late.

I thing so also....the little shark finny things should be facing the ground AFAIK.

I don't think gatorskins are directional, but I'll look. I am running Conti GP 4 Seasons on the bike now anyhow.

Not your tires, your koolstop brake pads are upside down....... the pads are directional with tire rotations.....and the "shark fin thingies" are there to guide the wheel in when putting it back in.

No shark fin thingies on these pads/holders... if there were, they would be down. The screw needs to be at the back (against tire rotation). Unless I'm missing something. https://www.koolstop.com/english/instructions.html

Thing is, Continentals *are* Kool Stops - the packaging for the grey pads is identical to the picture in the post above, but the pads are grey instead of salmon. I'm trying to figure out if there is any difference in compound (nothing on the package to indicate there is), and like you I prefer the look of the grey.

I've had these on one of my commuters for 3 or 4 years. That's got to be close to 8k miles and still lots of brake left.

not really, as the seller charges nearly $4 shipping. they're normally $10, shipped, for a pair (and about the same at my lbs). if additional pairs come with free shipping, then i guess it's something of a good deal.

Nope....my bad....but looked at your picture again and it really does look like there are "shark fin thingies" right at the hypen between L and S.

but to repeat... wrong on my part. screw does need to be at the back.
