Full threaded Stronglight BB: Can someone explain this thing to me?
Came across this on the 'bay and am confused. What's the advantage? Are the BB threadings that use a R/H thread on the fixed side cut continuously all the way through?

Seen and wondered about that too.
I'd be reluctant to use such if the threads do engage both sets of threads on the BB shell. It just seems like there's more chance of it getting stuck/seizing in the BB shell....

I believe the idea is that you can adjust the chainline however you want with this model. Obviously, it would only work for French and Italian threadings, and it would be annoying to thread all the way in.

All of a sudden the BBs with a R/H threaded fixed cup make some sense: one tapping operation for the BB, with a guaranteed alignment between cups.

Curiously, my Stronglight catalog (pg 7) shows this cartridge as being supplied in French, English, and Italian thread:

And FWIW, I have a similar Pino Moroni cartridge BB that is RH English thread all the way across:

Needless to say, I've yet to find a frame that works with it...

Is it possible that the threading reflects a manufacturing process rather than a purpose? In other words, the most cost-effective way to produce these models was to chop one long threaded tube into multiple cartridges?

That catalog... Wow! I've got a burgeoning Stronglight fetish and that's just what I need to see. Page 12 shows a tool for easier (but still PITA it would seem) installation of that BB.
Any idea the vintage of that catalog?
