Downtube shifters that is. Amtrak Century yesterday. 1200 riders, Irvine to San Diego CA. I saw four bikes with downtube shifters, the GF and I providing two of them.

Wonderful ride in our little heat wave. It was nice to ride on PCH and get some ocean breeze. Ten in our group, three on vintage steel (one with brifters). No flats, minor issues with the Di2 on one bike, no issues with the DT shifters though.....

On the train ride back to Irvine we had a few beers and much discussion. One observation, if you have 20 or 30 gears to choose from and brifters or electronic shifting you tend to shift more than with DT's.

We all ended up in the same place,, some faster than others, and had a great time.

Ha, i love it.

Long been known, and there's a reason why you shift less. But this probably isn't the best forum to say it :)

PeregrineA1, I'm more surprised that out of ten riders there were no punctures. ;)

I had a better ratio, but not enough to shout about, here in B'ham Saturday. ~150 riders, I saw 4 bikes with non-aero brakes. Only 2 of us were DT shifters, though. The other 2 were running bar-ends. Didn't spot any DT + aeros.

Wow, I'm kind of surprised that in a vintage car state like California, there were so few vintage bikes represented. I always thought of Cali as the place for everything vintage.

Keep DT shifters alive!:thumb:

How about non Aero Brakes and Barcons....cables flying all over the flight deck...Old School! (then throw in chrome fenders and rack)

How about non Aero Brakes and Barcons....cables flying all over the flight deck...Old School! (then throw in chrome fenders and rack) Was out riding Saturday, and a Peloton from a local club blew past me, mostly shiny new Plastic Rocketships. I tucked on to the tail and rode with them for a few miles till they turned left and I turned right. Had one rider call out "Nice Ride", another "Cool Ride Professor".....don't know how I gained THAT moniker.
