Cinelli XR stem.

So I know there was a thread I started similar thread however I now have a specific question. Has anyone experienced any issues with a Cinelli XR stem? Or have any experience or information about them? I don't want to her about how similar to the 1r or the xa it is. I would like XR info exclusively please.

I had to Google it....

They're either dirt cheap because nobody knows what they are or they're mega bucks because they're rare.

They don't seem to have the flaws of the XA or 1R....

I am hoping not. I plan on using one. To be safe ill put a nos bar (stems nos) that way nothing might be out of round an have an uneven load to cause breakage. I'd be willing to bet that is what killed many 1r and xa stems.

From what I read Cinelli pulled them from the market due to poor demand versus having structural issues.

I see well I feel a bit better about using it now. Do you happen to have a link to the article or information?

I have seen these pages. Thank you. Seems info on these is quite scarce.

The fact is that the production costs were far too expensive to warrant continuing once they came out with the XA. The XA works better at clamping the bars and cost substantially less to produce.

True dat!

I must be lucky. I've been riding XA/1R stems since the early 1980's, and have yet to have one fail.

I better check the XA stem on my Look when I get home...I assume any cracks would be most likely to originate near the logo on the front of the stem (along the edge of the circular cutout where the plastic logo insert goes)?

Yes, at the edges of the logo but its most from the ridges on the inside.

I had an XA fail in my drive way.....

I use a 1A which I've been considering swapping out for an XA mainly on aesthetic grounds, but it's not exactly a burning desire! Should I stick with the 1A on grounds of function and safety?? (Especially considering I don't want to pay for an NOS model...)

If it's working and you have it already yes. I'm using an XR because I've got to pick a nos stem for my new build anyways. Used to use a 1R. I think a lot has to do with making sure the bars and stem are in good condition when mating them. Out of round bars will cause more stress points.

Cheers, what I thought. I used to use the XA back in the day and I like the flying C logo on the front, but better safe than sorry. Besides, I've done such a nice job on the bar tape, it would be a shame to undo it!

Cinelli recently re-issued the 1A stem, instead of any of the "R" series stems..........for many good reasons...
Mostly because of reliability!:thumb:...and classic good looks too!:thumb:
