Vintage pencils?

OK, so this is pretty off topic, but it's probably still the right sub-forum, since these are definitely "vintage". I found these among a lot of junk in a thrift store, but the price was right. The gem is the Everglide mechanical pencil, with the advertisement for the "new" Trimline phone, which came out in the early 60s. The pencil itself is kinda small, but still fits a big hand pretty well, and it's a lot heftier (well-built) than it looks. Also notice, that old pencil with a high school's basketball schedule, from the '62-'63 season.

I always buy these when I can find them. Great for sketching.

I'm pretty sure you're only allowed to sharpen those carpenter's pencils with a retractable utility knife. Right?

Single-edged razor blade or Buck knife are also acceptable.

does anyone remember collecting nfl team pencils in the early '80s? seems so absurd now, but back then i remember needing (at the time) all 28 teams. i think i got them out of a vending machine at my elementary school (can't exactly remember how they were aquired). and it was pot luck what i ended up with for my quarter (or however much they cost). weird.

i prefer mehanical pencils now too.

[edit: added a pic from the web. ^ look: baltimore colts and houston oilers!]

If you don't use a #2 your answers won't be scored.

HA!!! I wonder what the kids of today would think, about those old test sheets we were forced to color in, in the correct sequence? And what were the bigger pencils, that were OK to use while learning to write, but by 2nd or 3rd grade, you were expected to "improve" to a #2 ?

I found an old Schlitz pencil in a junk desk at work. I kept it. I've used it (it was already sharpened 30 years ago), but I haven't sharpened it yet.

Yep, those are closer to what a draftsman or other professionals would use. Some of the better mechanical pencils can get pretty spendy, especially among the real collectors.

LOL. I think the Houston Texans should go back to being the Oilers. Houston Texans just sounds weird, not like a football team's name.
