Complete Super Sport SP project
The 82 Super Sport SP is done. Came out great! Good shape with a few blems. I bet this thing had about 300 miles on it before it was put away. First bike Ive done that didn't need wheels relaced. Found some Schwinn offwhite casing!
Thanks for looking

Looks great! What year did they make the SP, and what year is your bike?
Nice job finding a front rack to mate up with the cool bosses high up on the fork.

Very nice bike and lucky finding one in such pristine condition. Like that bar wrap and the bike color. I had several friends and occasional riding partners that had Super Sports and they are as good as their motor. I think you'd tend to find them more often in towns and small cities where Schwinn was the only established local dealer.
Here's what I'm finding for the years they made the SP:
1982.....SuperSport (SR triple crank,SunTour Cyclone) and SuperSport SP (Sugino AT triple,SunTour Cyclone Mk II). The SP was "new for '82" according to catalog. (SS-$550, SP-$650). Both models used Araya alloy box 700C rims on Sanshin LF hubs.
Not sure how long they kept making the SP after '83.

The rack was standard OEM on the bike. Came with it. No hunting necessary.

Great bike I love that it has the original Schwinn equipent fitted touring racks. 9 out off these I see dont have them and I think they are just some off the best ever. Plus the very nice Suntour touring group is just great. Most of these bikes have just been butcherd for the parts are road to hell in back so it is just it is rare to see one complete in nice condition. Just one of the great overall bikes from the 80's.
