My working hi-ten bike after a cursory cleaning to remove the detritus of Friday's commute in the rain. I can feel the difference between this bike and my, um, higher-end bikes, and I can out-ride this one. But it's still a great bike, has been for 40-some years.

My Ross Gran Tourist Three Speed. It has a very nice riding 1020 frame. I kinda like it...

Interesting observations. And I'm inclined to agree with you, as I've noticed that - apart from the Mercier in post # 109 - two other high-ten bikes have earned favorite positions in the non-fixie household.

One is mrs non-fixie's rather lowly Benotto 500 Lady, which she claims 'is faster' than her Brands (which is all Reynolds 531 and was built by Gazelle's racing department). Notice how low the head tube is, compared to most other mixtes (and yes, that stem is very tall):



The other is my orange mystery bike. The only time I realize it's a high-ten bike is when I lift it onto the bike rack, next to one of my 'nice' bikes:
