Wow, a 170 exists! And it's just three hours from me (and closer for you PDX guys and gals). I think $2500, especially as a starting bid, is a bit rich, but we'll see. The cancer diagnosis part really sucks. Interesting that in mentioning various models, it went 760, 770, then 170, which is accurate for other years except 1983 as this 970 owner (me) raises his hand and politely states, "They made another one, too!"
That paint combo is really nice. My 970 has a TSI "60" BB shell of the same design (obviously not a "58" like this one), even cable guides and hardware. Best of luck to that guy. |

John, I didn't remember using those decals with that seat lug design? If so it was pretty early.

Could be. Pretty much the only 170 frames I saw after painting were the team frames.

I had one, cut off all the brazes and made a fixed gear polo bike. That imron paint is TUFF STUFF!

I don't mean to be rude, but didn't you get the hint when the moderator said you can't sell here unless you get a membership?
Just showing up with the sole intent to sell your bike, starting 4 threads and dredging up another (albeit a very nice thread) all with the intent of drumming up interest in your bike that you have for sale... pay up or go away. |
Thanks for the reports, gentlemen! :thumb:

I have one...

...I got in the late 80's as an unused frame. I rode it for a while, one of my favorite bikes. I'm not trying t0 sell it.

I don't know much about it or it's rarity until I came to this thread. I did find a copy of the 1984 brochure online a few years ago. I do know it was for a racing team in CA and it had a Chain Reaction Cycles shop sticker on it.

Three, altogether. Kelly Gamble was the other one. Tim Isaac was the designer.

Nope, it's staying on the wall.

You planning on building it up to ride or keeping it as is? It looks really nice.

Whoa dude, total unobtainiumsville. The one Trek that makes my “mint-ish” Trek 760 look obsolete. Oh man, killer bike. Ride on.

Thanks for all the kudos. I’m happy to find like minded people who appreciate the beauty of old steel.

Carefully wiping the drool from my chin. Very nice.

Turns out after looking more closely at the S/N it's really a 1983.

My ‘84 build frame on my ‘86 760 has the “58” BB shell. All the top tier vintage Treks are ultra cool. Love ‘em.

The "58" and "60" on those TSI Trek shells refers to the angle between the seat tube and down tube, not frame size (although the "58" shells went on the smaller (
