pedal clips for cleated shoes.....Can I assume these are "old schoo,", i.e., not used any more?

More properly I should call them a shoe plate, this is where the cleat from the shoe fits and then you would have a clip / strap to snug everything down. |

For #1 , yes they are the piece that attaches to the spoke to make the "tick tick tick" sound as it hits the axle mounted odometer. It is a well known fact that some people go insane from the noise. :)
