Thoughts on this one before I buy...

I'm drawn to this one for some reason. Isn't the Super Sport a "low end" model? Were some Super Sports made better than others? The parts mix sounds pretty awesome (105 w/ Dura Ace cranks). Some of you might poo poo the stem but I appreciate the way the bars are level with the saddle. Not looking for a piece of history, just a decent rider.

I like the stem. My 58cm Cross Check that has a 15 degree rise stem and 60cm of spacers to bring the bars level with the saddle. Big part of what draws me to that bike is that I can tell just by looking at it I'd be right at home without having to change anything around.

I dislike the look of the stem, but I think the actual usage of the stem would be nice and allow for a riding position more sitting up. It's certainly better than stacks of spacers (like on my Trek 1000). The bike looks nice.

You know, people complain about the looks of lots of spacers and riser stems all the time. I don't understand what the fuss is about. I think it looks fine, cool even. I love my Cross Check but if I rode it without all the spacers and the riser stem my neck would hate me for it. I dunno, maybe it's my build. I'm about 6 foot with long legs.

Nice bike. And your Surly is as well. Don't worry about the stem or spacers. One must set up to be comfortable in the saddle.
The Super Sport is set up for French fit....saddle and top of bars level. I'm old school and love French fit, it's comfortable and practical.
I try to set all my bars level to the saddle where ever applicable.
