Just me.... I would have chromed the fork and rear triangle, seatstays and chainstays.

i agree michael, i would've loved to chrome the forks and stays. but, i had to buy everything for this bike. i already maxed out my funds. i really didn't want to spend any more than i had to. plus the pitting was really bad on the forks and part of the rear frame. it would've never really looked that nice.

Your right, the pitting made painting it a much better idea.

this frame set was a total nightmare to work with. lots of grinding and sanding, little body filler. tons of primer, more sanding, more primer and more sanding. didn't think i was ever going to get the tubes smoothed out.

While we are on that topic... I popped the headset cups out of the frame I am having Sloar paint last night and it was completely bare for the first time since I have owned it so I weighed it for grins. The weight means nothing to me, but might to somebody else!

no disrespect was meant, i was just saying this ready mix paint doesn't paint like traditional lacquer. it sprays and sets up like acrylic enamel with no need for wet sanding and buffing.

I have a project coming up that will either be Orange or some version of Purple, purple just is not seen very often on bikes.

last summer I picked up a cheap nishiki to flip. I didn't want to spend any money,but it was in serious need of a paint job. I had a little red and a little metallic blue left over. So I mixed the two and came up with a very cool looking metallic purple. I think the paint alone sold that bike.

I just missed on a beautiful Chris Kvale two years ago.

It was a very light purple and I am still irritated with myself for not buying it.

Here is a '70s Centurion Super LeMans as it looked when I sold it. I think I paid $70 for it. It had Campy Nuovo Record derailleurs, Suntour Sprint wheelset and Suntour barcons. All of those parts went for other builds. I really liked the metallic orange.

I weighed my '73 Raleigh RRA frame when I last had it apart on a Taylor digital kitchen scale. 531, frame was 4.3 lbs, fork 1.8 lbs. It is a ~56cm (22.5").

Wow. I now have a strong desire for an orange bike.
