I recently pulled this bike fully functional (minus shredded tires) out of a junk pile. I thought it was a Bridgestone Sirius 300 but all of those I can find say Bridgestone on the downpipe. The frame construction looks the same to me but I don't know anything. If it is, what year? If not, what is it?

I think his question was kind of about that it doesn't match the catalog pics.

Actually, it touches on something I've discovered lately in researching my oddball Panasonic: Japanese domestic catalogs often show bikes that were never distributed anywhere else (or were distributed under different monikers), and some of them list quite different parts specs from their U.S. editions.

Its not just Japanese companies that did not necessarily match the bike, paint and components to what was actually shipped. The mid-70s french bikes were all over the globe as far as component mix. My observation was the catalogues were pretty much advisory, not binding.

Hmmm... that would explain a lot, as would the import/export operations & distributors matching components to local retailer demand. The Jap. domestic version of my Panasonic was spec'ed with 26 x 1 3/8 wheels (that is, 650a); here it was sold w/ a standard 26" MTB wheelset.
